I went to the game, everybody. It was awful, then kinda good, then it just kinda petered out into bad.
I don't want to talk about the top of the first. It was like a mouthful of bees. Beads? No. Bees.
Yonder's Slam made me high-five the closest four strangers I could find. I think that's the most social I've been this calendar year.
The rest of the game wasn't in our favor, so let's talk about 90s night instead of the game on the field. We all know what happened there by now.
Between the bottom of the first and top of the second, they showed a classic Wally Joyner highlight video, which reminded me of the time that, when I was a wee Ax, I had season tickets just beyond first base at the Q, field level, first row, and an enemy ballplayer hit a pop foul right at us. My brother somehow leaned over the railing... and Wally Joyner crushed his arm. My brother survived without any injury, so, to me, it was extremely cool.
The 90s uniforms looked good. I used to hate them but I've changed my mind. Sorry, not sorry.
In the top of the 3rd, they photoshopped Chase's head on top of a Forrest Gump poster and put it on the screen. It looked like this, so whoever wants to 'shop it up, use this source.
In the middle of the 3rd, they made Clayton into Terminator 2.
Dancing Grounds Crew Guy did his thang. Did you know that as he finishes his performance, he basically makes everyone do The Wave?
In the top of the 4th, Chase made a cool play that reminded me of Cammy. It was the unis that reminded me, not his his sudden crazy display of power. [serious nod]
I'd really enjoy an upgrade to the animations on the upper scoreboard. That thing looks like a Game Boy now.
In the middle of the sixth, Kotsay and Kelly were featured in a Point Break movie poster. 90s!!!
In the top of the 7th, Will Venable was pasted onto the Fresh Prince (of Bel Air).
The top of the 8th had Luke and Brach in a Fight Club poster. Did you know that Fight Club came out in the 90s? Me either.
[Back to the game] Maybin getting called out on strikes in the 8th... wow, just wow.
In the top of the 9th, someone somewhere started The Wave. You gotta admire the human spirit.
Then we lost the game. While walking out, they played a classic Ken Caminiti "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?" 'deo (from the 90s). I wish padres.com was able or allowed to host a big archive of all the classic footy they have. I'd love to spend 36 hours watching 480p video of all the old times. Not a complaint, just sayin'... it'd be cool.
I'm going back for JCole day. We're gonna win. I'll tell you all about it. See you tomorrow.
