Would you like some soda? How about a "cup" of political advertisement on the "side"?
I suppose it is time that I finally admit it...I'm a cheap ass. While I do have some *real* cups around my house that are made of actual glass, I drink out of promotional plastic cups 90% of the time. I suppose I learned my frugality from my parents. In fact, my mom visited recently and without any sort of prompting from me, grabbed a plastic promotional cup and began putting some orange juice into it. She could have gone for the "fancy" glass stuff, but knew not to. The only problem was, my mom used one of these 1998 playoff cups to get her orange juice fix. I wanted to yell at her....but as she is my mother, I wisely decided to look the other way.
So the cups on the ends are from the World Series, and the one in the middle is either from the NLDS or NLCS. Actually, they probably just used the same cup for both those series.
Of course all three cups have the good old "YES ON C" slogan. I'm sure most of you are aware but proposition C allowed the city to finance PETCO park. The vote was in November, and the World Series was in October. There was some debate about needing a new library instead, but support for the padres was very high.
I tried my best to get a closeup of this artist's rendering. It's interesting to see what has changed. The image seems to be missing a scoreboard and left field stands. The Western Metals building is there though. The right field stands aren't as large as they ended up being. I also think it's funny that the artist decided to put barely any fans in the stands.
