Leila Rahimi joins the Sisterhood of the Traveling Jersey

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Jersey is a Gaslamp Ball community project that will chronicle the 2012 Padres season through the lives of their greatest fans and an old jersey.

Padres Field Reporter Leila Rahimi contacted us earlier this week interested in doing a quick segment on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Jersey for Fox Sports San Diego during a Padres broadcast. We told her that the Dave Staton jersey would be at the Reds game on Wednesday and she quickly went to work to get the segment approved. It may seem like this would be a pretty straightforward thing to produce but I can assure that it was not. It turned out to be really stressful for everyone involved.

I remember reading a book by Charles Kuralt where he warned that as a journalist you should never become part of the story, but we chose not to heed his advice and suggested that Leila take a turn and travel with the jersey herself. After much stress, confusion and frustration the jersey eventually was passed through an intermediary after the game and into the hands of Leila.

The segment aired today in the bottom of the 5th inning and it more or less looked like this, except with moving pictures. I had to edit out all the descriptions and footage of the game in order to keep MLBAM from coming after us. I also only used freeze frames of the video in an attempt to keep YouTube from banning us again.

Here she is, adorable as ever...

Keep tuning into FSSD (if your cable company allows) and pay extra close attention to Leila, because something tells me this won't be the last time she and the jersey make an appearance together.

Goodnight Dave Staton wherever you are.
