Yasmani Grandal led off the 5th inning by lining out to Giants centerfielder Angel Pagan. Fellow Cuban-born University of Miami alumni obtained from the Reds Yonder Alonso followed up by dumping his 32nd double of the season into right field. Will Venable proceeded to ground out to second, allowing Alonso to lumber to third base. Everth Cabrera then did his part, singling to right to score Yonder. Unfortunately, the hits I just told you about were the Padres' first and second, resulting only in narrowing the gap to 9-1 in favor of the visitors, who exploded for an eight-pack in the third to chase Ross Ohlendorf and touch up his substitute Miles Mikolas.
The Giants jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Marco Scutaro homer but faith was still very keepable at the time. It got a little sketchier in the third when Dorf managed to get one out and let five more runs pass before getting what I hope to be his final hook. The Lizard King let a pair of inherited runners plus one of his own to cross the plate before stifling the ordeal at 9-0. The Giants would tack on an insult run in the ninth via Brandon Belt singling in Hunter Pence to bring the game to its final score.
