Both players, Headley and Quentin, have had their names floated in trade rumors this season. Rosenthal believes San Diego could trade both, but that could leave their 2013 offense in even worse shape than they are now.
Rosenthal believes the Padres could sign Quentin and trade Headley, the player he believes will bring the greatest return of anyone on San Diego’s roster.
Headley has hit at a clip of .272/.371/.418 with eight home runs, 18 doubles and 38 RBIs this season. The 28-year-old is a career .269/.347/.395 hitter and won’t reach free agency until after the 2014 season.
