Padres Minor League Recaps: 07/17

The Padres scored a billion runs to Houston's two tonight and they were joined by Lake Elsinore and San Antonio in the W column. Fort Wayne had the day off for travel, Eugene lost, and Tucson had the misfortune of losing two games in one day. I would have written an open thread but I ended up taking a nap for most of the day after going to softball practice- I forgot how much being really awesome at second base in a hundred degrees takes it out of you! It's not like anyone other than Wonko and maybe Sam would have commented on it and they're pretty level-headed guys so I don't think they're too pissed about it. You guys want some recaps, though? I hope so because that's all I have to offer now.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 0: Matt Branham pitched 6 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 3 hits- all singles- and no walks while striking out 10, to pick up the win. Greg Gonzalez, Yefri Carvajal and Kevin Quackenbush picked up where he left off, each pitching a hitless inning. The Storm scored twice in both the first and the fourth and once in the third. Rico Noel and Tommy Medica each drove in a pair of runs and Donavan Tate somehow hit his first triple of the season without falling apart in the 270 feet between home and third.

San Antonio Missions 12, Frisco RoughRiders 4: Every player who went to bat for the Missions got at least one hit and four had a multi-hit game. Cody Decker was the only San Antonio player to not score a run but I think he can be forgiven since he drove in two with two doubles. Decker was one of five Missions to drive in a pair. Ali Solis went 3-5 with a double and a homer; Jeudy Valdez also doubled. Eddie Kunz got the win for pitching 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball after relieving Hayden Beard who allowed all four of Frisco's runs in his 3 1/3 innings.

Eugene Emeralds 1, Vancouver Canadians 4: Corey Adamson went 3-4 with a run scored for Eugene while his teammates went 4-30 without crossing the plate. Juan Marcano took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 6 innings. Tony Wieber relieved Marcano and was lights out for two perfect innings, striking out four before Matthew Chabot came in and allowed two insurance runs.

Tucson Padres 1, Reno Aces 4: The TuPads dropped the first game of their doubleheader, a makeshift makeup for Monday's weather postponed game. They managed only four hits, two of which were singles by Jedd Gyorko who raised his BA back to .354. Mark Hamburger took the loss, giving up a run for each of the three innings he pitched although only two were earned. Jason Ray pitched a perfect ninth for Tucson, striking out two. Nick Hundley was pulled from the game at the trainer's bequest and subsequently placed on the 7 day DL due to a strained hammie.

Tucson Padres 1, Reno Aces 3: It was more of the same in the second game, although Jedd only got one hit- his 17th double- in two ABs, raising his BA another point to .355. Andy Parrino, Matt Clark and Vince Belnome also logged hits and Sawyer Carroll had a pair. Bear Bay fell to 2-6, allowing a pair of earned runs in 5 innings.
