This one was a laugher before anyone on the junior circuit team even swung a bat. The NL scored five runs in the top of the first. First-half fluke Melky Cabrera singled with one out and was promptly doubled in by reigning MVP Ryan Braun. AL starter Justin Verlander struck out 2010 MVP Joey Votto and then the floodgates opened. Carlos Beltran and delicate flower Buster Posey walked to load the bases and Pablo Sandoval smacked an inside-the-park grand slam. Unfortunately, he's morbidly obese and, as such, stopped at third base for a triple. Rafael Furcal finally grounded out to stop the bleeding for the time being. Joe Nathan and David Price pitched a scoreless second and third, respectively before Matt Harrison came in and gave up three runs in the fourth to bring it to the final score of 8-0. The AL's best shot at scoring came in the fifth when amateur beard farmer and future journeyman middle reliever Clayton Kershaw loaded the bases but managed to wriggle out like the filthy nightcrawler he is. The only excitement from then on hinged upon whether Padres representative Huston Street would somehow get forced into action against the will of the powers that be. Alas, it was not to be but that's the way it goes sometimes.
