Day 1 is going to consist of the 1st round and its supplemental picks. The Padres have 4 picks. They have 1 pick in the actual first round that they earned with their 2011 71-91 record. Their supplemental round picks come as compensation for losing Heath Bell and Aaron Harang in free agency and for not being able to sign 2011 draftee Brett Austin.
Mock drafts vary in accuracy, but three of the prominent ones (ESPN's Keith Law, Baseball America's Jim Callis and MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo) have the Padres selecting Puerto Rican SS Carlos Correa. Another one (Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein) has the team selecting USF (and La Jolla High School) P Kyle Zimmer.
