San Diego Padres (@Padres) June 27, 2012
Chase Headley, who got yesterday off, and Yonder Alonso, who has been resting a sore knee, return to the starting lineup tonight. With the series even at a game apiece, our Padres will send Clayton Richard to the mound to try to give us the advantage going into the season finale. Richard is riding a three-game winning streak and has pitched extremely well in those three starts. His last time out, he gave up three earned runs on six hits and three walks, and struck out six against Seattle. He also struck out six in his start prior to that in Oakland. In those two games, he threw his two highest strike totals on the season. We'll see if he can keep that up tonight against the Astros and his former teammate, Lucas Harrell.
Like Richard, Harrell comes into this game with some momentum. He lost his last start, against the Indians, but only because of a lack of offense. He had a great performance on the mound, keeping Cleveland to just one run in seven innings. So he's hoping to carry that into tonight's game and keep our Padres off the basepaths. Also, the Astros offense has picked up lately so he's hoping they can keep that up and prevent another tough-luck loss for him.
Our offense came so close to a 9th inning rally last night. Hopefully they can give Richard an early lead to work with so they don't have to worry about a late rally tonight.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
