SAN DIEGO, CA - JUNE 18: Chase Headley #7 of the San Diego Padres hits an RBI double during the first inning of an interleague baseball game against the Texas Rangers at Petco Park on June 18, 2012 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Denis Poroy/Getty Images)
All the scoring in this game happened in the first inning. Jason Marquis started and barely escaped a first inning that could have turned into a total cluster f*ck, but he settled down. He finished with 10 K's.
In the Padres half of the first they seemed ready to answer back when Chris Denorfia and Cameron Maybin both reached base on hits. Could Chase Headley come through with the "big hit"? Yes. Double. Boom. Three hits in a row to start the game. Denorfia scores. Maybin to third.
End of scoring. Game over.
Fox Sports didn't show a good recap of what was happening on the base paths when Headley hit his double off the centerfield wall. It seemed like his hit should have cleared the bases easily. But with no outs, Denorfia was set to tag up. Maybin was said to be right on his heels, but was held by Hoffman at third.
Pads left 11 men on base. Feels real good.
