It's been three days since the Friar Faithful have tasted the sweet taste of victory. Hopefully that will change today.
Edinson Volquez takes the mound in game 2 at Philadelphia and hopes for a repeat of his last outing. In his first win of the season last week against the Rockies he gave up two earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five batters in 5.1 innings of work. Overall, he has pitched pretty solidly but hasn't gotten much support from the lineup, so hopefully they will turn it around today.
Our Padres will be facing a tough opponent in Roy Halladay. Halladay has been great this season. However, he picked up a loss against us in April when the Phillies came to San Diego. In what has been dubbed the 2nd best game of the season for SD, Halladay lasted 7 innings and gave up two earned runs, but those two were enough to give him the loss as his Phillies teammates were unable to score a single run of support for him. Cory Luebke was dealing that day and the Phillies lineup just couldn't get to him. Hopefully Volquez can do the same and we can embarrass Halladay some more while extending his 4-game winless streak.
