Hope no one enjoyed going behind the left field fence during games. One of the changes this year at Petco is not for the better. The Pads are closing the interesting little area in front of the Western Metal building behind the fence where you could stand at field level and watch the game unfold. The team is turning that area and the little nook near it in the Padres store into a new suite for games. They've installed TV's, tables, chairs and all manner of stuff and roped the area off now.

I never watched from there during games
but I had wanted too. So much for that. It was always fun to go check out BP down there too. Bummer.

Agreed
Also talking to the staff there, seems they’ve started discussion about moving the team store over to the candy factory.
would kind of make sense though
could open the team store earlier on game days, and helps drive attention to other parts of the area.

Nope. It'll be for high rollers.
Gotta get that extra revenue.

It's a suite according to what I was told
Not a traditional suite obviously, but it’s definitely a suite of some kind.
That was one of the more charming features of the ballpark.
I thought it was a bit of a lure to get people in the store because I would always take guests there. Most of the time it was just an interesting but distant view of the game but if you happened to be there at the right time to see a play in that corner it was unbelievable.
I was there
When Cameron smashed into an infielder running for a fly ball and broke his face. They had to cart him off. We waited around and he rolled right by us to a waiting ambulance in that big opening next to the WMS Building.
