With no major trades to talk about I figured it would be fun to talk promotions. I love collecting stuff, especially Padres stuff. I enjoy reading kevintheomans weekly posts and it got me thinking; what promotions do I want to see in 2013.
Props to the Padres for stepping up the quality of the promotions in 2012, the swinging Friar shirt and the opening day shirt are some of my favorites, not to mention the replica jersey. The only problem with wearable promotions is they keep pilling up, I can only wear one Padres shirt to a game and no promotional hat comes close to the real deal for $30.
I know some of you don't get the bobble head thing but I would like to see some bobble heads in 2013. It seemed like the Padres were scared after their player selection in 2011 flopped. The easy solution is to do retired players. What about a bobble head for each retired player on the battery's eye? The other bobble head idea I thought of was to giveaway bobble heads on the throwback nights and have special low run variants w the different jerseys (regular version current jersey, rare one throwback jersey from that nights game). The Padres did this in 2003 with Winfield and RJ variants.
Outside of bobble heads I really hope the Padres do something to celebrate Chase Headley's gold glove and silver slugger. The fans need a player to be proud of, Chase is that player. I would also like to see more promotions involving the swinging friar, the swinging friar is the one timeless logo from the Padres even though its slightly changed over the years. The swinging friar bobble head is one of my favorites. Maybe a swinging friar pin? Also, you can't go wrong with a decent cooler, Padres gave away a cooler a few years ago but it was weird where the beers stack on top of each other and you wear it over your shoulder.
And I'll end by saying keep the beach towels up. Love the beach towels, especially the ones that incorporate 4th of July.
