Gonzo on the cover of MLB 2012 The Show

Is it me or will no self respecting Padres fan buy this game? First of all, Gonzo, really? Second of all a team who choked hard in the playoffs? Get out of here. Screw ESPN and their video games. I can't believe they'd put him on there to begin with and of all the Red Sox players they pick him? You have GOT to be kidding me. I, for one, will be avoiding this game this year. I don't know about the rest of you all, but anything with that sellout on it isn't worth buying.

There's no way I'm buying it!

I refuse to spend my money on a game with him on the cover. MLB 2012 The Show will not be bought by this Gaslamp Baller and proud XBOX 360 owner.

Not. A. Chance.

Why ask a failed romance to come watch your successful one? You know, that's like inviting the Seattle Mariners to a World Series game. It's just weird for everyone.

I feel bad for you son

I got 99 problems, but a gaming system that doesn’t have good baseball games is not one

by kevintheoman on Jan 19, 2012 5:42 PM PST up reply actions

MLB The Show

is the best baseball game around. I don’t care who is on the cover. In fact, I have no idea who is on any of my covers anyways. Also, how could you not enjoy a game that has Matty V. as one of the commentators?

by kevintheoman on Jan 19, 2012 5:46 PM PST reply actions

Also, ESPN?

The developer is Sony San Diego. Does ESPN do advertising for MLB The Show now? My most recent version is 2010.

I rec'd this and then saw this...oops

No need to chew the guy out. He’s entitled to his opinions, even if it differs from your’s. I, for one, agree with him. He makes a good point about why the Red Sox are even on it. I’d never by anything with Adrian on it anyways. I’m still pissed he sold out and will probably hate the guy forever. And why should it matter if he’s only posted 3 comments? Maybe he/she’s is busy and actually has a life.

Where in the world is Khalil?

You're entitled to that opinion even though it differs from min'e.

I didn’t chew anyone out. I copy/pasted and had some fun with it. I’m not a fan of Adrian one bit either but whateverth.

wtf

I don’t care if I use a default avatar. Am I not cool like you are? What do you do? Make like 5 games a year and think you’re a fan? Enjoy TV, I’ll enjoy my season tickets killer. You don’t wanna read what I got to say, then don’t read it. Yippy, you hurt my feelings. Yeah, no, you didn’t.

It’s not even that it has Gonzo but more or less a team that didn’t go to the series, why would you put a team on there that choked the hardest? I hope that game does the same.

by Dirty.B on Jan 19, 2012 11:26 PM PST reply actions

I'm guessing this was intended as a reply to me.

I was just busting your balls but that would probably be better reserved for people I have a preexisting rapport with.

Am I not cool like you are?
I’m not a cool guy anymore. As if I ever was before.
What do you do? Make like 5 games a year and think you’re a fan?
Nope. I only make a couple games a year max when they’re in Pittsburgh and/or Cincinnasty and I KNOW I’m a fan. If I should ever happen to wonder whether I’m a fan or not I’ll just look down at my left hand and that ought to remind me.
.
I will enjoy (mlb.)TV and I’m certain you will enjoy your season tickets. Everybody wins (except the Red Sox in September).
.
P.S.: Welcome!

I don't understand
t’s not even that it has Gonzo but more or less a team that didn’t go to the series

If they put a current Padres player on there (Hundley?) you wouldn’t like that either since the Padres didn’t make the playoffs last year?

I’m really confused by your rage. I imagine practically nobody buys a sports game just because of who is on the cover. The people who are going to buy this game (self included) are going to buy it for the actual content of the game.

I can think of only time I bought something because a player was featured for it. I bought some Wheaties that had Tony Gwynn on the box. An important fact for this story is that I was going to buy cereal that day anyways.

Hee hee!

Man, that brings back memories. I bought a couple, too.

by scout1222 on Jan 27, 2012 3:11 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah I think this is misplaced anger

The trouble with sports games is you only have last season to go by. So you could put Rangers and Cardinals onto the cover of the 2012 game, but you’ve already dated yourself. Couple that with free agency and trading and by the time that you pick a player, there’s the outside chance that he’s already moved on to a different team which makes your cover look even more ridiculous. Besides, the face of the Texas franchise right now would be Yu Darvish, but there’s no way you stick him onto a cover.

And even overlooking all that, I’m still not sure what the anger is for. It’s not like somebody buying the game in June, when the Red Sox could very well be in first place in the EAst, will look at the cover and say, “MLB the Show has Adrian Gonzalez on the cover? But they choked last season!”

I think I'd buy MLB The Show even if it had a dodger on the cover

I’d probably get creative and edit the cover with a sharpie though…

If I had a PS3 I would buy the shit out of it!

I got a XBOX from my SO for Christmas, and I would love to have an awesome baseball game like the show to play this spring, I don’t care who is on the cover.

MLB The Show is for PS3 only

no idea if it works with playstion move though.

by kevintheoman on Jan 20, 2012 10:02 AM PST up reply actions

I'd buy this game even if it had Ruben Rivera on the cover!

They had Joe Mauer on the cover two years in a row! No game puts the same player on the cover two years in a row, but really, who gives a fcuk, i bought it anyway because its a really good game.

Do you imagine a scenario where we could, say, sell Hudson to a Japanese team?

by Natrone Means Business on Jan 20, 2012 10:01 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

I agree with you, kevintheoman and Padres_Hobo.

Not too long ago, I bought a shitload of Gatorades with Eli Manning on them. And I HAAAAAAAATE Eli Manning. I just peeled the labels off. That simple.

I’m not a gamer; in fact, the only games I’ve played since the heyday of original Tetris have been The Show, The Bigs and College Football ‘0-something- and very sparingly at that. But it seems to me that nobody I know- and pretty much every one of my friends is a crackhead for the controllers- gives a good gotdang about the cover. I know if there was a game I wanted to play, it wouldn’t matter to me if the cover featured Matt Cain, Darren McFadden, Andre Ethier, Eric Clapton and a rottweiler running a train on my late grandmother. I own a trash can.

The disc goes in the console, the box gets thrown in the Tv stand. Even then I buy most of my games digitally, so no cover or box. Any gamer is not going to give a rats ass about box art unless they are buying a collectors edition. The content matters not some Debbie Downer ex-padre on the cover.
