San Diego Padres to Annouce Fox Sports San Diego TV Deal

It looks like the Padres do have a deal in place with Fox Sports and Padres games will be on a new channel Fox Sports San DIego. The Padres should be looking at 17 to 22 million dollors a year for the new deal. I am hoping it is 22 million becasue 17 million seens a lilttle on the low end. This is some good news compared to the whole Morrad/Moores tranfer on the sale.

Fox Sports San Diego will broadcast through all cable, satellite and telecommunication providers so that the games will be available to a wider audience.

should I dump Cox for Direct TV or ATT uVerse?

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

if you want

I’ve always kinda liked Cox. Only reason I would move is if cost savings seemed really good.

by Dex on Jan 17, 2012 2:18 PM PST up reply actions

I like Cox but...

I pay about $165 for cable and internet
that doesn’t include any movie channels.
Direct TV is about $50 and I’d need to get internet
U Verse is about $110 a month

I just don’t know that much about the quality of the HD signal, etc

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

I quit reading after the first four.

I'm not a fan of DSL

Really terrible upload speeds. Bad for gaming.

by kevintheoman on Jan 17, 2012 6:42 PM PST up reply actions

I pay about the same

But I spring the extra $10 or $12 a month for HBO. I’m nervous about using DSL since I work from home and need a pretty quick internet connection. Cox’s website is impossible, but I’ve found their customer service to be perfectly fine once you get them on the phone.

I work from home

not sure how fast a connection I need.
I used Skype a lot and occasionally use my Roku box
Most of that runs off my wireless 100 – 300 Mbps.

How the hell are you paying that much?

I pay under a hundred for cable and internet with Cox. Extended basic, one CableCARD, and the 12 Mbps internet plan.

by Darklighter on Jan 18, 2012 10:45 AM PST up reply actions

that is the introductory price

they jack it up after 3 – 6 months

I've had Cox for about 9 months

I don’t pay for movie channels, but I do get some extras. Here’s my bill.

My charges

advanced TV is $19 ($3)
extra DVR/Receiver – $17
faster internet (not sure if I need it) $49 ($19)

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

by Hormel on Jan 18, 2012 4:49 PM PST up reply actions

Correction, $113 a month (I had some weird credits from changing services).

And that’s regular prices.

TV Essential: $57.00
Whichever Pack Has BBC America So I Can Watch Doctor Who: $5.00
CableCARD: $2.00
Internet Preferred: $49.00

Still significantly less than $165.

You'd probbably be okay anyways

but I don’t really trust an article from a school paper. I’m likely going to switch to DirecTV, but I won’t do so until both the channel is officially announced and DirecTV has announced they will carry it. It would suck to sign up for a two year contract and get screwed.

by kevintheoman on Jan 17, 2012 3:51 PM PST up reply actions

I'm really disappointed to see Channel 4 go.

It sucks to think that the Channel 4 studios will be taken over by FOX, but that is the most logical thing to do. I wonder what’s going to happen to Sam the cooking guy? and Jane Mitchell?

Sam's had national syndication offers.

I’m sure he’ll bounce back to great prominence.

Sam has a couple shows on scrub cable channels

I was in Buffalo and I was shocked to see him on TV. I think it’s “discovery health” or something obscure.

This will be good for the Padres

but I hope that Time Warner in Yuma, AZ will pick it up. I doubt they will, as we already pick up Fox Sports AZ;

I hope something gets worked out to at least see the games here. If not looks like I get a lot of Uncle Teddy. (MLBTV has Yuma in the blackout range, and did even before we could actually see the games)

I have the same concerns in Las Vegas (which is also in the padres blackout area)

I doubt Cox Las Vegas would pick up FSN San Diego when they already carry FSN West and Prime Ticket.

by kevintheoman on Jan 17, 2012 3:53 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah the rumor was a Prime Ticket subfeed for the first few years

In any case, I can’t see Cox Las Vegas choosing the padres subfeed over the dodgers subfeed

by kevintheoman on Jan 17, 2012 6:46 PM PST up reply actions

we don't get prime ticket here in yuma though

so that really wouldn’t change things. With the arizona and arizona state programming as well, and being the D-bags station, pretty sure FS Arizona will be what they stick with. BUT- pretty sure We never had the entire channel 4 programming anyway here so could see TW working out something to carry just the games or something.

It would be huge if the Pads get 22 million a year

But even 17 is an upgrade over the previous 15 million from Ch 4. But the bigger thing is that the Padres will be getting an ownership stake in FSN-SD.

by athletics68 on Jan 17, 2012 5:13 PM PST reply actions

Yeah the money is great

The ownership stake is huge. Not many teams have stakes in their TV networks.

WE ARE THE NEW YANKEES

i wonder if bud black is going to get his own talk show a la girardi

by iheartyourfart on Jan 17, 2012 10:20 PM PST up reply actions

It should be called Bud Light!

At the end of the show he could say goodbye, point to the camera, flash a cheesy grin and say his immortal catchphrase ‘Now you’re Bud Wiser…’

Either that or just call it The Bud Black Show. Lame. Eurghhh. I can’t believe they went with that.

by london_balling on Jan 18, 2012 5:04 AM PST up reply actions   4 recs

Well lets not get carried away

We own a stake, not the whole network. More like we’re the Giants (who own a portion of CSN-BA) without the annoying mentally deranged bandwagon panda hat wearing fans, cheesy ballpark, and penis with a little hat on for an owner.

by athletics68 on Jan 18, 2012 8:35 AM PST up reply actions

getting carried away

is pretty much the funnest part of being a fan. especially in the offseason.

by iheartyourfart on Jan 18, 2012 11:49 AM PST up reply actions

This post will likely come out as jibberish, but I don't care.

When I think about “getting carried away” I often think of a particular Saved By The Bell episode. Oil was found under the football field, and everyone (students) would dream about how it would change their lives. It’s always been hilarious to me to think that if the school found oil, the students would see the benefits. Screech is dressed as a sheik. Zack is ordering Belding around like a butler. I think someone might even be wearing a monocle.

by kevintheoman on Jan 18, 2012 12:37 PM PST up reply actions

.

I think Slater has the monocle

Why ask a failed romance to come watch your successful one? You know, that's like inviting the Seattle Mariners to a World Series game. It's just weird for everyone.

by Friar Fever on Jan 18, 2012 1:01 PM PST up reply actions   4 recs

haha so awesome

I had forgotten that Zack and Slater had floozies with them!

by kevintheoman on Jan 18, 2012 6:30 PM PST up reply actions

Well the previous numbers were estimates as are these

But they’ve all been pretty consistent in the approximately 20 mllion range.
