Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

C Nick Hundley led off the second inning Tuesday with his second home run in as many at-bats, a drive over the center field fence off Giants rookie LHP Eric Surkamp. Hundley is hitting .318 at Petco Park this season with five homers and 14 RBI in 107 at-bats. The average is currently the highest single-season mark by a Padre with more than 100 at-bats at Petco Park since the downtown San Diego facility opened in 2004.

he's always hit well here

petco for right-handed pull-hitters is really not that bad of a park. death valley in right/right-center accounts for a huge chunk of the “petco factor.” especially in the hotter months, petco plays far more fairly for pull-guys like hundley. this should also be taken into consideration for guys like jesus guzman, kyle blanks, etc. who don’t have significant home/road splits.

its guys like venable and headley that are really adversely impacted by petco, and their splits show it.

I was surprised to learn

he has the highest single season mark by a Padre at PETCO.

I never put much thought into it….but I most likely would have guessed it belonged to Giles…or maybe Adrian in 2006.
I don’t think Milton Bradley had enough AB’s

On the very next play Venable soiled the sheets again

Hundley and Torrealba both hit better in Petco last year. They were the only ones.

Gotta watch those home-road splits though. Dodger Stadium and Telephone Park are
pitchers’ parks too, and those teams have better than average pitching anyway. Jed
may be right about Petco getting in their heads. There’s a lot more overswinging at
Petco (and more K/9) than the road parks, yet the Padres are more aggressive on the
road, with fewer walks and more stolen bases – and more runs. It’s like the “good” team
goes on the road and the replacement team plays Petco.

Not sure if he has enough AB’s…

On the other hand, you have different fingers.
