Chill out dude!

Almost everybody on every team gets put on waivers.
the Padres made their decision when they moved heir-apparent Adams.
Whether claimed or not, it pressures Bell’s agents to make a deal.

It needed to happen.

I am surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I hope he is claimed by a team who is willing to give something for him, or we can sign him to a cheap ass deal.

no bro

if he leaves his new team will definitely offer him arbitration so we’d have to give up a pick to sign him (which is not happening). unless our pick is protected?? can anyone check on this?

I said "who is willing to give something for him, or we can sign him"

No one in the front office would be dumb enough to sign a type A free agent right now.

Padres Fan.

Heath set this up

when he said he would accept arbitration.

Like everyone else, I am sure the Padres are having doubts about Bell.
He is the face of this team – but his powers are diminishing.

guarantee he can still get a multiyear deal somewhere else

anaheim for 3 years/30 million seems like a no-brainer starting point. even if they have to give up a pick.

I love Heath still

We need someone like him on our team to give us a voice. Does Jim Rome really want to talk to Nick Hundley/Headley? No but he will put Bell on which helps spread our brand. I hope we sign Bell to 2yr 18m with mutual option at 8m

Strikeout rate is way down

I haven’t noticed him throwing his curveball for a strike (not counting the ones that people hit) in they last many games. is this abnormal for him?

by hbar on Aug 23, 2011 10:40 AM PDT reply actions

fangraphs has his curve as a below average pitch now

down from being a plus. his overall problem is that he’s being too hittable. hitters are making too much contact when they swing. whether he is legitimately in decline is up for debate though. he’s getting hurt on a lot of balls thrown outside the strikezone which is sort of flukish. his velocity isn’t down either. his peripherals are obviously down in terms of strikeouts, ground ball% etc. but its really only been his curveball that’s been giving him problems. he may get a handle on it again soon and be back to normal. his fastball is still great, though it looks like he’s leaning to heavily on it. i think he will get this curveball thing figured out and show that this is more of a down year than a decline year.

the curveball

still looks sharp, but he is either having trouble with location with it (which is not uncommon for a curveball to go through stretches, during Zito’s last year in Oakland he went through a 70 inning stretch then found his touch), or hitters or spitting on it. He could be tipping his pitches?

i think he's just having trouble landing it for a strike

if he can get ahead with the breaking ball, he’s dominant

I love Heath

But given his status as likely over the hill I can understand this move. Plus they can always pull him back off waivers. I have a feeling this is more of a fishing expedition than anything else.
