Joe Pawlikowski makes the point I've been trying to get across for a while. The Padres have enough money to afford Bell and their arbitration cases and extend certain and still have money left over. But, what the heck do you spend it on? They don't want to be players in free agency and looking at the free agent class next year I can't blame them. Increasing the payroll is an awesome concept, but I'm just not sure how it gets executed without signing more players that we don't really want to actually watch play baseball. Kind of a funny concept, no?
