Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

"While some teams are still determining whether they will buy or sell at the deadline, for a few teams the answer is painfully obvious. The San Diego Padres are 14.5 games back in the NL West and 15 games back of the Wild Card, placing them firmly in the sellers column. They’re fielding plenty of phone calls now, mostly regarding their highly regarded relievers, Heath Bell and Mike Adams. But the Padres have some other chips that could potentially help a contender. Outfielder Ryan Ludwick is one of them, but they might be able to get a bit more if they were to shop around their third baseman, Chase Headley."

Didn't Jed say that they were looking to build around Headley?

Out of all the Padres to get a long term deal my guess would be him and Maybin.

I'm not sure what motivation Headley would have to go for a long term deal.

His numbers are getting good enough that he could do well for himself in arbitration.

James Darnell

This article claims Headley is a possibility because Darnell is doing so well in the minors.

I like defense

Anyone who spikes a ball after tagging out a douche like Andres Torres is OK by me.

Darnell doing well in the minors might not translate to success in the majors

Just look at Rizzo.

We just need to get the hell out of Tucson.

AAA minor leaguers should not play in hitters’ parks when the MLB club plays in a pitcher’s park.

It's not just Tucson, the whole PCL has bandboxes, or desert air, or altitude.

The whole, hyper-extended league is a problem and not just for the Padres.

I've wondered about this for a while,

but I hope they keep him

Trading Headley talk might be a couple years premature.

The average is nice but the other Petco/Padres effects will depress his arb raises,
making him affordable for a few more years. Watch what the Padres do with Gyorko.
He might be the next Savior, with Darnell more likely to be the one who is traded.
