Tony Gwynn Interview Part 3: The 2011 Padres' second half

I asked Tony Gwynn what he thinks the second half of the season has in store for the Padres.  What problems do they need to remedy?  Is it realistic to think that they still have a chance to get back in the race or is it too late?

In short he thinks that it will depend on what happens at the trade deadline because the Padres have a lot of pieces that other teams need.  If the Padres offense can figure out a way to score (he admits that's a big "if") then he thinks that the team isn't too far out of the race that they can't get back into it.

I recommend listening to the audio, because there is a hopefulness in his voice that makes me want to believe the Padres can make a comeback.

More like hopelessness

“They got to figure out a way to put runs on the board.”

It’s called nearly an entirely new lineup, sans Headley and perhaps Ludwick. Let Rizzo continue to play (and not Hawpe when he returns), call up Darnell and Forsythe.
