After a hard loss last night, our Padres look to rebound and take the series in today's rubber match against the Rockies. A leadoff home run by Chris Denorfia and three shutout innings by starter Wade LeBlanc made for a promising start to the game, but it all unraveled in the fourth inning. Despite collecting 11 hits, we were unable to top the Rockies' six runs. We will need the offense to turn it around today behind Mat Latos.
Latos will make his second start at Coors Field this season. His last start in Colorado was one that turned his season around, giving him his first win of 2011 after a streak of 11 starts without a win, dating back to September 7, 2010. In that outing, he gave up one earned run (a solo homer to Todd Helton) on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Since then, Latos has won four of six and has allowed two or less runs in five of those starts.
On the hill for Colorado will be right-hander Jhoulys Chacin. He is coming off a dominant start against the Dodgers in which he pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. He is 7-4 on the season with a 2.90 ERA. In his only start against San Diego (May 14th in Colorado), he allowed three earned runs and struck out six in six innings.
Players like Ryan Ludwick, Chris Denorfia, and Chase Headley will need to stay hot and our offense as a whole will need to be more efficient. We can't afford to strand 11 runners like we did last night, especially in Coors Field. A win today will bring us to 5-4 against the Rockies this season and give us our second series win in Colorado. Let's get some day game magic going!
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
