Late May Moves

It sounds a little crazy but at the same time these moves really wouldn't be that shocking.

Who's Gone: Headley (traded to Seattle, Figgins gets hurt) , Hawpe (released) , Bell (trade to St Louis 3-way trade with Rangers), Ludwick (released or traded to Yankees or Mariners).

Who's In: Michael YoungAaron Cunningham, Logan Forsythe, Anthony Rizzo

Yes Hoyer will pull the trigger quickly.  Padre fans will be shocked but recover just as they did with A-Gon.  Padres hitting will get slightly better with younger bats.  Pitching will remain solid.

Wouldn't be shocking?

Trade away guys in May for a Michael Young and his gigantic contract? Pitching wouldn’t remain solid if we got rid of a closer and got no pitcher in return.

Plus, why would we do it in May? EVERYONE still has a shot in May. Plus it was easy to recover from losing our former 1B because it happened when baseball was not being played. To just drop guys like nothing in May would put the team in a tailspin.

Why ask a failed romance to come watch your successful one? You know, that's like inviting the Seattle Mariners to a World Series game. It's just weird for everyone.

Amazingly ridiculous.

I was going to type out a long, well-reasoned response but then decided I was too lazy.

Yes… in some ways, as this actually pertains to baseball.

You almost had me.

I thought you were serious until I got to the part about acquiring Michael Young’s ridiculous contract.

Okay so maybe July

Maybe late May is early but really a habit seems to be forming. As for Michael Young, it’s called having Texas eat a majority of his contract. Hoyer does have some skills.

As for the worry about no pitching in return…. it’s called Petco, how many pitchers thrive at Petco? Harang, Garland, Corriea. Good pitchers go and we always seem to find replacements. This you can credit Padres front office. Wasn’t it suppose to be the end when Peavy left. I maybe wrong but the Pitching numbers improved.

Let’s see what all these doubters are saying after a dozen more 1-0 or 2-1 defeats.

You do realize

that we just spent $22.5m signing Bartlett and Hudson to 2 year deals each, right?

Young can be our DH.

Oh, wait…

3rd Base & 1st Base

Headley has proven he can’t play a full season at 3rd and when you release Hawpe that opens up his half of the 1st Base Platoon. Again….. Texas eats a fair amount of the contract.

Why do you hate the Padres?

Late May?

I think this may be in our Early May plans at this point.
