Beer Quiz: Name the beers at Petco's Ballpark Brews
We're currently doing an analysis of all the different beers at Petco Park. I've brought on a certified cicerone to help me with my assessment because I only know one thing about beer and that's that 73% of the time you ingest it through your mouth.
That said, there's a whole exposé going on, but in the meantime, to test your beer/baseball neurons, here's a quiz. The following is a photo from Petco Park:
Click on the image to get the bigger version, but your task, if you are so inclined, is to name as many bottles as you can. Our cicerone has put together his answer key, and now it's up to you to determine if you have what it takes to be as big a beer snob as some of you think you are.

That's pretty low resolution.
I see Red Trolley, Newcastle, Rolling Rock, Corona, Pacifico, Alaskan IPA, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for sure. I think there’s a Stone IPA, too, and there’s probably Heineken.
But the real beer snob answer: Most of the beer in Petco is utter crap, but there are a handful of common craft beers. If you really want beer, you should go to Neighborhood before or after the game.
What do I win?
low resolution's the point!
Otherwise, you’d just read the labels. But do you recognize the labels while wearing what amounts to beer goggles? When you’re 4 pints (and $50 down), will you still be able to identify the beer that you want to drink next?

I've never been 4 pints down at Petco.
What am I, made of money?
Lol!
Good point, Dex! Couldn’t have said it better myself. ;)
i might be a happy go lucky guy but i'm serious when it comes to my padres! rofl!
I refuse to participate
This would be my favorite beer stand in the entire ballpark (partially because it’s somewhat hidden and therefore there’s never a line), except that beers there are like a billion dollars.
Boooo

I see nothing.
I see some kind of swill bottles.
Where are the taps!?!

I think section 125 is the sweet spot...
You come out, make a right and there’s this beer stand, a nearby bathroom and an area to stand and watch the game (down the left-field line) if you want to stretch the legs.

Damn straight.
I loved it when he used to have Leffe.
Now I drink the Shiner.

Top shelf, from left to right
Green label that I don’t know, Shiner Bock, Corona, Corona light, Widmer Hefeweizen, Pacifico
Newcastle, too blurry, too blurry, too blurry, Dox Equis Amber, Bass, some mini wines
Blue Moon (BLECH!), I don’t know, Wydmer cider, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, I don’t know, I don’t know, Rolling Rock, Stone Pale Ale
That was fun squinting.

Where's Neil?
Alaska IPA, Corona, Pacifico, New Castle, Bass, Blue Moon, Sierra Nevada, Rolling Rock, Anchor Steam, Stone IPA, Karl Strauss, Heinekin, Dos Equis, Shiner Bock, etc.
The best spot is the “other” Ball Park Brews, however – as soon as you come in from the Palm Court, right at the top of the first flight of stairs. But Neighborhood is a solid call and highly recommended if you like really huge onion rings…and REAL beer.
With as many breweries as there are in SD, they really should have a better showing than this. But that’s just this beer loving girl’s opinion.

Yes, welcome!
It’s good to see some fresh faces around here. We were getting sick of looking at each other all day long! Lol! J/k :)
Us long timers tease each other. It is all in good fun. You will get used to it, right axiom? :)

HERE!
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
Agreed.
The Petco Park beer selection is shameful.
Is your list in order?
I’m checking against my answer key.. You start off good, but then kinda jump around a little bit.

I'm pretty sure I read the directions...
And they said nothing about order. I also didn’t include Pyramid Hefeweizen or whatever cider they have because I don’t consider them “beer”. Sorry girls! Also didn’t include Imperial. Didn’t they used to have a Ballast Point brew as well – possibly Big Eye?
I’ve been following you guys for awhile, but only the marrying of beer and baseball within one post got me out of my hideyhole. Now, if only bacon were somehow worked into your post… that would have been the perfect trifecta.
nice work
a couple of the missing ones…
- 3rd bottle from the right is Imperial (Costa Rica)
- 4th bottle from the right looks like Sharp’s non-alcoholic??
Pretty good...
Third from the right, our expert guessed Shiner Bock, but I like your answer better.
Fourth from right is pretty certainly Karl Strauss Red Trolley.

Starting from the left on the display bottles up top...
New Belgium Fat Tire, ?, Corona, Cerveza Sol, ?, Pacifico
Newcastle Brown Ale, ?, ?, Heineken Light, Heineken, Dos Equis Amber, Bass, White & Red Wine
Blue Moon, ?, a cider, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, ?, ?, Rolling Rock, Stone IPA
That's kind of an insult to the plethora...
of great San Diego beers that aren’t being offered. Geez! Stone was in Europe damn near forever ’til we were able to get it in Chicago last April 1st.
There's an old woman's stocking in my soup!
hahem:
Alaska IPA, Newcastle, Blue Moon, Widmer’s Cider, Stone IPA, Pacifico, Rolling Rock, Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon, Red wine, White Wine, Bass Ale, New Castle, Corona, Corona Light, Red Bridge (?), Red Trolley,
They usually have Fat Tire at that particular beer staid (behind Section 105), but don’t see it displayed.
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
Sounds like a place where they "ironically" listen to Journey and compare mustaches.
