Padres trade for Alberto Gonzalez
Maybe announcing that Everth Cabrera made the Opening Day roster was a little premature. Somebody get to work tearing down that sign!
#Nats have officially traded INF Alberto Gonzalez to #Padres for minor-league RHP Erik Davis and cash.

The payroll is low enough for the Padres.
They should just hem the leftover ones in the locker room and he’s ready for Opening Day.
Why ask a failed romance to come watch your successful one? You know, that's like inviting the Seattle Mariners to a World Series game. It's just weird for everyone.

"Abreu, Ramirez, Blanco On Waivers" - maybe we should grab these players
.
.
.
Maybe not…
D’Backs infielder Tony Abreu, Cubs catcher Max Ramirez, Royals outfielder Gregor Blanco
confusing names are confusing

Max Ramirez, how far have you fallen...
He never did quite make the transition from AA to AAA. He’s like a 2.5A player.

Best of a bad situation
Wonder if he’ll still be with team when PAtterson is healthy again

There's room for both Gonzalez and Cabrera on the roster, if Latos is on the DL.
eleven pitchers, two catchers, five outfielders (including Salazar), four regular infielders plus Cantu covering both first and third, and room for two much-needed infield backups. Hudson has topped 140 games played only 3 times in 9 seasons. Bartlet has played as many as 140 games once in seven seasons. Add pinch hitting/running, and there’s a need for two UTs.
If Latos starts on the DL, Moseley might be a starter, and if Maybin starts the season on the DL, we’ll see Cunningham until Patterson is ready. If Bud MUST HAVE that 12th pitcher to start the season, either Salazar or Everth will have to go. With up to 3 players maybe on the DL, the roster won’t be settled until mid-April.
I dunno, it says that Everth got optioned to Triple A Tuscon
Along with Wade LeBlanc and Aaron Cunningham
Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...
Also Salazar

lots of stuff going on for a Monday
Padres Release Oscar Salazar
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [March 28 at 7:32pm CST]
The Padres released infielder Oscar Salazar, the team announced. San Diego acquired Salazar in the 2009 trade that saw the Orioles acquire Cla Meredith, who was also released this month.
Salazar played first, second, third and both corner outfield positions last year, posting a .237/.318/.336 line in 148 plate appearances. The Padres acquired Alberto Gonzalez earlier today, so they no longer needed the 32-year-old Salazar.
In related moves, the Padres called Cedric Hunter up from Triple-A, optioned Wade LeBlanc, Aaron Cunningham and Everth Cabrera to Triple-A, reassigned Randy Flores, Guillermo Quiroz and Logan Forsythe to minor league camp and placed Eric Patterson on the 15-day DL.

Luebke makes the rotation
over LeBlanc
Rob Johnson is the back up catcher.

Over Moseley?

maybe Luebke is out of the pen
since Bud has been putting him in 1 inning stints for the last few days

I'd think Luebke should get the rotation over Moseley
After his ridiculous implosion a few days ago. Of course, that is true of almost everybody on the pitching staff…
Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...
I think when it's time for a 5th starter, Moseley should get the nod.
He’s done well in ST and should be given his chance.

I had to check that out. It's true.
Corey Brock has LeBlanc pitching a minor league game Wednesday, and a simulated game in Tucson on 4/6, and the 5th starter position opens up on 4/12, when they’ll decide on LeBlanc, whose last option just got used.
Latos is definitely on the DL (taking no chances), and Luebke made the team, probably subbing for Thatcher. That leaves 3 starters, so Moseley is likely to get at least one start, probably two
Maybin is still up in the air, and one rumor had Cedric Hunter making the team and not making the team, while Gonzalez will meet the team in St.Louis on Thursday.
When you get the final 25 man roster Thursday, be ready to edit it. I hope all the uncertainty doesn’t screw up the team.

Adams to the DL and GoGo in on!!!
Adams, who is 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA, also has a strained left oblique. His move was retroactive to Monday.
To take their roster spots, the Padres recalled right-hander Ernesto Frieri and outfielder Luis Durango from Triple-A Portland.

so much stuff... so confusing
We need a real update at some point.
It sounds like half the team is on the DL, released, or in AAA to start the year.
the other half
are bench players on the diamondbacks

All these changes just before opening day could be unsettling to the team.
Add more changes when guys get off the DL, and the Padres may have a rough April,
with games against St.Loo, Cincy, Philly and Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Rox play the Pirates for 6, Cubs 6, Mets 4, and Marleens 3.
Well they've got to get down to 25 guys
Hence all the changes. I think they’re at 26 or 27 right now.

This is what happens when I don't go on GLB for a day.
I miss things like THIS.
I need new pants.
I believe that we will win.
