Trade Proposal
Hey I've been rosterbating lately for my favorite team, the Seattle Mariners. If you were Josh Byrnes, would you trade Will Venable and Ernesto Frieri to the Mariners for Nick Franklin? John Sickels had this to say about Franklin in this years team prospects rankings: "Grade B: Borderline B+. Don't be discouraged by the weird numbers at High Desert. He's got unusual pop for a middle infielder, and I think he has a decent chance to stick at shortstop". If this deal wouldn't work, what counter offer would you propose back? I see Kyle Seager and Jose Campos being a fit for your team as well.
Thanks

You can have Venable as far as I am concerned.
The fact that you want to give us a middle infielder for Frieri… hmmm…
I don’t know anything about your minor league system, but if he is in AA or AAA, I would consider it. Venable doesn’t really have a longterm future in SD unless he suddenly turns it up a notch… and people have been saying “this is his year” for several years now.
Frieri… I kinda like him.
Ok, just looked up Franklin. There is no way you should be willing to trade him to us for Frieri and Venable. Franklin is a 20 year old who was tearing up AA. I would not trade him for a solid reliever and a 4th outfielder.
I would push for Blanks and Venable (if you are looking for outfield help). However, that might be more than what the Padres are willing to give up. My hunch is Blanks might do very well as a DH and occasional 1B/LF. He might do well as an every day LF, but we haven’t seen that yet.
But I wouldn’t swap a potential every day MI [Franklin] for Venable/Frieri.
Ok thanks. I was trying to avoid the classic fan trade proposal where the fans team gives up nothing in return for a lot
I guess I avoided it a little too much. Thanks again for the insight

No. I actually only follow the Padres blogs, and don't want any other baseball players besides the ones currently on the Padres

That is a thoughtful and earnest answer, lacking any hint of sarcasm.
Rec’d!
Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...
I don't see what the problem is.

i have gone to other sites
but not routinely, and not to troll. Why would it be a problem? it could be educational to get the perspective of the fans and writers of other teams. When fans from other teams come here, (and not the trolls) they often offer perspective, ideas and thoughts regarding players that we might not know or consider. When trades are consumated or even rumored, it is helpful to know what we are, or may be getting. So…whats the problem with it, so long as they are engaging in honest baseball discussion and not just trolling?

No Venable, yet. As of now, he's the only backup for Maybin in CF.
We’ve got guys now who can barely field the corners, you gotta have a decent fielding
center fielder beyond your starter. Petco’s wide open spaces is not your normal outfield.
