Hudson getting a bad reputation around the league, will make it hard for Padres to trade him

Tweets like this one by CBS's Scott Miller make me cringe as a Padres fan.

Good luck to Padres trading Orlando Hudson. Secret is out. All talk, no leader. Pads tired of him by last July.
Nov 16 via TweetDeckFavoriteRetweetReply

Orlando Hudson has gotten a bad reputation this year, both with fans and with the team.  When he wasn't mixing it up with fans on Twitter, he was making bad plays in the field and not providing any veteran leadership in the clubhouse.

Bill Center reported a couple of days ago that the Padres are trying to trade either Jason Bartlett or Orlando Hudson before the beginning of next season.  He suspects the team will have an easier time getting rid of Barlett.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Forget the brown...Bring back Hudson & Bauer!

Someone has to be desprate.

Or we should just waive him, see if someone will pick him up for free, along with his contract. Maybe we can get some minor league filler? Maybe we can give him to the Cubs as compensation for Jed?

Padres Fan.

If we waive him wouldn't we be responsible for all of his contract

except the major league minimum for a vet at his level? I thought that’s what kept teams from just dumping players.

TBD

by IputtheYinTony on Nov 17, 2011 1:44 PM PST up reply actions

He would if he passed through the waivers, but I think

If he was claimed, the claiming team would be responsible for full contract, but we would not get player compensation.

Generally team let the guy go through the waivers, and sign him at league minimum later… unlessssss someone is desperate enough… someone… PLEASE!

Padres Fan.

by MrDanielX on Nov 17, 2011 2:04 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah the claiming team would pay the contract

Like the White Sox claiming Rios a couple years ago. That Blue Jays GM did a great job getting rid of seemingly immovable contracts for them.

by Antonio Olivares on Nov 17, 2011 9:42 PM PST up reply actions

Yes, but this is unlikely to happen before...

let’s say July/August of next year.
Granted, if we put Maybin on waivers, he would get claimed, and we would retract the waiver.

But everyone knows Hudson has issues… so, I doubt there would be any waiver claims. If a club was interested, they would probably say, “hey, we’ll take him, and $4 million” or something.

by Zen Blade on Nov 18, 2011 6:02 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, during the post-trade deadline revokable waivers.

At this point we just need to get him of the roster.

Padres Fan.

hudson wasn't gonna bring back a whole lot anyway

i think people know about his baggage to begin with. we were basically looking for a low-level minor leaguer and assuming the padres would eat some of his salary.

The return would be

Not having to pay him.

Hmm...

You should have done your research before opening your mouth. There is reason to believe he doesn’t even live in San Diego nor is he even a Chargers fan. Know where you could have seen that? His profile page.

Thanks Moorad for bringing your buddy on

especially by giving him a two year deal when he had had nothing but 1 yr contracts for five years. I hope you got your agent’s cut

Looks like the padres are actually in on Furcal

to the tune of 2 years, $15m, with an option that’s pretty much in line with what he’s been offered elsewhere. looks like the writing is on the wall for jed’s double play combo.

we will need them both once the DH comes

by iheartyourfart on Nov 17, 2011 7:58 PM PST up reply actions

Sadly isn't coming either

He’s more likely to end up on a beach in Miami drinking pina coladas with LeBron than come here.

He'd be an upgrade over Bartlett

Now if only we could find something to replace Hudson.

by athletics68 on Nov 17, 2011 8:06 PM PST up reply actions

a lot of people were discussing

furcal moving to second base. obviously he has more intrinsic value at SS, but he may be a plus fielder at 2B instead of a middling one at SS. plus i’m sure we’d all rather keep bartlett than hudson.
