Padres add Frandsen, Quiroz with Minor league Deals
Padres general manager Jed Hoyer said Tuesday the team was looking for options for the bench.
On Wednesday, the Padres might have found two in infielder Kevin Frandsen and catcher Guillermo Quiroz.
The Padres have signed Frandsen and Quiroz to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training.

Well, the Padres' triple-A team needs a catcher, and J. Hairston apparently isn't coming back.
I can see Quiroz making Johnson work for the backup position in ST and serving in Tucson as backup if Johnson’s injury history develops a new chapter. Just two years ago, both Hundley and Blanco were hurt and both Portland catchers ended up on the big club, so it’s good insurance.
Frandsen’s a former Giant who grew up in the other bay area (that’s San Frisco to me: the other “City By The Bay”) so I wonder about that angle. Frandsen has more experience at SS than Hoffpauir, who’s basically a 2B/3B infielder, so he might be the replacement utility man for Hairston.
Frandsen is a decent contact hitter
who can back up a couple different infield spots.
