Padres lose nine in a row

Dex and I spent a lazy Saturday afternoon at the ballpark.  He suggested to me that the Padres change their "Believe!" slogan to "Unbelievable".  It'll work on two different levels, the good and the bad.

At times the Padres look like they're pressing and as Tony Gwynn says you can't play baseball with a tight booty. Other times they just look flat, like a day old soda.  Either way, here we are riding a wave of suck in a 9 game losing streak.  Nothing left to do, but root for the Dodgers and wait for tomorrow.

Go Padres!

Unbelievable

Is the perfect new slogan. That’s what I screamed as Eckstein struck out with BFOP.

Tomorrow.

The Padres will win tomorrow.
Also, they need to get THE Tony Gywnn into the booth. I miss his awesome voice and wisdom, plus I think he’s the one to help bust this slump.

We weren't supposed to panic after losing 3

I fully believe that..it happens…6 games, yeah it sucks but most teams endure that at least once…..no we’re at 9 games and Bell says we’re not supposed to Panic so it must be true…what I wanna know is how many games does it take in a row before it is acceptable to panic…seriously give me a number…cause it is really getting harder and harder to defend this team

No number

What is good about panicing, what gets better when people panic.

We are still in first and tomorrow is new day.

I hate Juan Uribe.

I can’t believe that schmuck is the only guy to homer off Heath this year.

Well, we can't just sit and hope every night that the Giants lose

Pretty soon we may actually have to win a game or two if we want to take the division.

That said, f—k Broxton.

I believe that requires hitting a baseball.

Not exactly our strong suit, as of late.

Why does Joe Torre

hate the Padres so much?

Broxton is worthless….f&@%!

Doyers have 1st and 3rd with one out

The fact that I am scoreboard-watching at this hour on the Internet frightens me.

Haha

It looks like several of us are doing that…sigh

This will get better

But man, it’s as though the Padres are a super hot chick, and they’ve given me the worst form of blue balls ever.

by 5fingerGreenehandpunch on Sep 4, 2010 8:35 PM PDT reply actions

Face it

We’re underdogs

We have not learned to handle being the dominant 1st place team.

BUT I think all of this suck has just about put us in our place and give us that no respect / nobodys mentality that we flourished with for so long.

This pains, but it is part of the process, winning will come.

by TJB on Sep 4, 2010 8:39 PM PDT reply actions

Also I hear they dropped leblanc from the rotation

I guess thats fine, suppose its easier for him to handle then a vet like correia, he may be back anyway.
Here’s to hoping Lubke picks up the pace

So how awesome was the SD Chicken at the game?

I wish they showed more of him on t.v.

This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here.

by whithd3 on Sep 4, 2010 8:54 PM PDT reply actions

My favorite

was when he stole the concession guys bag and started throwing peanuts and cracker jacks into the stands with the guy chasing him around the field. Classic.

I love the chicken, and his shtick was good

but i couldn’t help but notice that when he stood on the Rockies dugout and “cast a spell” on Hammel as he was pitching, that Hammel actually pitched better. I guess it’s just that kind of mood right now.

by abara on Sep 4, 2010 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions

planting the flag right in front of the rockies dugout was pretty funny too

Something I'd like to know...

And I don’t know how to find out this information, but what is the record for the longest losing streak for a team in first place that has remained in first place from the beginning to the end of the streak?

I have to think that we’ve either set the record or are really close to it. First place teams don’t usually lose 9 games in a row, and if they do, they don’t usually remain in first place. So, what the record for the longest losing streak for a team that’s stayed in first?

by theodore donald kerabatsos on Sep 4, 2010 11:16 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

I'm not sure about staying in first through the whole losing streak, but this was said on quick pitch tonight

Longest losing streak by an eventual division winner:
11 games by the 1982 Braves, 9 games by the 1970 Twins, and 8 games by 8 teams.
So that kid of gives you an idea

shit is ugly, yes

but let’s not forget why we’re in this position in the first place. This team has done the unbelievable- stayed in 1st place and played very consistent baseball throughout the season, until now of course.

As fans, we need to keep our hope, and hope that another loss doesn’t come. God, this streak has been painful. But regardless of what happens, everyday I tip my cap to this great group of true ballplayers. This season has been tremendous, and I still have a monumental amount of faith in these guys.

by recorddigger on Sep 5, 2010 12:03 AM PDT reply actions

i am soo sad

and it’s so hard not to cry when i watch these games, but i genuinely believe in this team and i know they’ll pick it up and finish strong.

by freelunch on Sep 5, 2010 12:09 AM PDT reply actions

I'm convinced this entire streak is a ploy

to get the team firmly entrenched in the old us-against-the-world mentality again. They were getting far too much positive media and even talk of the playoffs.

Yes, I’m happy in my delusion.

Deno is probably the best candidate for leadoff at this point

I think Buddy only kept him from doing it this long because:
1. He was comfortable with J. Hairston there for a long time
2. Deno had a power surge and Buddy wanted there to be people on base in case it continued.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
