I am writing this post via my iPhone and it is a bit of a pain to only use my thumbs. I do this for you dear reader. It is my penance for busting this slump to only work with my thumbs for the evening. In other news, I hope we win tonight. GO PADRES!!

By pitching him tonight, they are both set up to start.

We need to do something different or this ship is going to sink. We can just pretend everything has been fine and everyone’s going to get back on track.
Correia and LeBlanc have been TERRIBLE for over a month now. They’re trying to find someone to pick up some slack. Of course there’s a chance it’s not going to work out. But you have to try SOMETHING.

Neither Correia or Leblanc were scheduled to pitch tonight. If you wish replace one of them, you give Luebke a shot, when one of them is scheduled to pitch. That way you mitigate the gamble.
ok im going to break character just once tonight to say this
we are at the beginning of a 17 consecutive game stretch. no off days. anything to give our pitchers some extra rest to harness their chi going in to that is a-ok with me.

They have 22 pitchers on the 40 man roster. The luxury of that,
is that you do not need to concede a game, in order to preserve the bullpen.
Let me get this straight... because I want to see if this is what you really think.
If Luebke went out and pitched a great game tonight, and then the next time around in the rotation Correia and LeBlanc get blown up again, you don’t think it would occur to Bud or anyone else in the organization to say, “Hey, herp, derp, uhhh… maybe we should take out Correia and put in Luebke”?
What do you think the point is of Luebke pitching? For development?? Are you insane? If Correia was pitching just fine, you honestly think we’d be seeing Luebke right now?

I am saying: If you are going to give him a shot, sit Correia for a game and let him pitch. With the way Correia is pitching there is no real gamble. They did not do that. Instead they slotted him in front of Garland.
Keep in mind that could have a more sever effect on correia as well
Not saying we should care, but its much easier to tell a pitcher that he’s being pushed back a day than tellin him he’s being replaced for a rookie. Just observing.

I think the point of keeping Correia in the rotation (for now)...
was in case Luebke proves he can’t take over the spot. If Luebke gets blown up (make your own judgment here) and you took Correia out of the rotation already, then you’re not giving your other pitchers an extra day off… which was part of the reason for bringing Luebke up.

It's more than just developing a pitcher
it’s trying to find a replacement for Correia. If we want to do that, we have to stick with him. He’s the best option we have.

this is also an attempt to give everyone an extra day and change things up, not a bad idea in the middle of a streak. Its always a gamble, maybe he settles down and suddenly he’s our #3 in the playoffs /longshot

The flexibility comes in
when you have a guy on the DL at the time the deadline passes, he’s still eligible to be on the playoff roster, even though he’s not active at the time.

As I check in on this game
I am left with 2 questions:
1. Where has our run support gone? Seriously, it’s never been great, but haave we gotten one good performance in the last week from our hitters?
2. What will it take for Stauffer to earn a start for us?
(Note: I;m not complaining about Cory, or saying he didn’t deserve to take a start. I just want to know what Timmy has to do)

And if he takes over as a starter, who takes over for him? They could kick Correia or LeBlanc there, or bring up Ramos, but Tim has been lights-out in that role.

Cory really wasn't that bad.
He made a couple mistakes that got crushed. He got nervous and started missing the plate. But after that he settled down. I hope they stick with him going forward.

It's true though.
Applies very well today. They didn’t have good ABs, mostly, and didn’t hit with RiSP. They struck out in big spots, and rapped into double plays. Yeah, it’s tough to win when you get down 4-0 quick, but at the same time this team has sucked at scoring while they’ve been losing. When they were winning, they were scoring. Now they aren’t, and they’re losing.
