Ultra-rare occurence in Giants/Cubs game
So I'm watching the Giants put up a 9-spot in the second inning against the Cubs (fcuk you very much, Ryan Dempster) -- it all started off innocently enough with Jose Guillen getting hit by a pitch. The Giants then bat around, and when Guillen comes up a second time, he is hit again. From what I can tell, this is only the fifth time in baseball history that the same batter has been hit by a pitch twice in the same inning:

Small geeky silver lining in an otherwise craptastic inning.
(Side note: Juan Uribe, following Guillen in the lineup, homered in each of his two at-bats in the inning, including a grand slam. That's something that I think has only happened about 50 times. All in all, quite the inning for rare events.)

Took the words out of my mouth.
I don’t care if Amelia Earhart landed in center field. The point is that the stupid Giants are winning and we have a game tonight.
FOCUS, PEOPLE.
THIS
Who cares about anything the vigiants are doing? This is one of the times where I wish there was a Unrec button. Fcuk you very much.
Still waiting for Matt Holliday to touch the plate.
Gee -- hostile much?
Glad to see everyone’s got their perspective on straight here.

That was kinda harsh, sqrunt.
Did last night’s loss get your panties in a bunch?

As a guy who wrote a post called
“Why I Love the Jose Guillen Trade”, I’m upset that the otherwise worthless waste of space known as Guillen has figured out how to contribute to his baseball team, which is an enemy of mine.
I mean, come on…how else was he going to help? It sure wasn’t by playing baseball.
Actually
It is kinda crazy! I’m sorry I will always be a baseball fan first and a padres fan second. I think it’s cool that something rare like that happened, even though I would have preferred it happening to another team…like the Pads. But it’s cool! Like, I think it was last night too, some yankee pitcher hit three guys in a row, which is pretty rare!

I just wish it was uribe that got hit instead. Both times in the face.
Or if they were going to score 9 runs it was all via hbp in the face.
On a related topic, I think I heard that a yanks pitcher hit like 3 dudes in a row yesterday, the last one forcing in a run. Which tied a major league record.

Yeah
I try not to read people’s comments either.

I'm a Giants fan
And I was at the game where EGon was hit in the face by a pitch. My wife’s a Padres fan, so I go to a number of games down there. This comment is disgusting.

That is pretty funny
I was half-watching that game/half-dicking around on my computer when they mentioned that Guillen was hit a second time in that game. I didn’t realize it was in the same inning.
I also remember the announcers mentioning that the Cubs manager was going to throw the same part of the rotation at us so that it didn’t look like they were “rolling over.”
THANKS A LOT, CUBBIES! :-D
Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...
Hi, Giants fan here
One other note about that 2nd inning that was pretty high on the “rare” scale; the pitcher (Madison Bumgarner) had two hits in the inning.
I’m willing to bet it’s the only inning in MLB history where you had a pitcher get two hits, another guy get two HRs and another guy get HBP twice.
Proudly adopted Aubrey Huff. You can't beat that!
yeah, getting hit twice in the same inning is obscure, and it was even more bizarre because Guillen got hit twice by the same pitcher (Dempster). The only other time that’s known to have happened was Brady Anderson’s 2 plunk 1st inning on May 23, 1999, when Mike Morgan was allowed to stay in the game long enough to hit Anderson, let the Orioles bat around, and then hit Anderson again. In both cases, the pitcher was lifted after the 2nd plunk of the same batter, and in both cases the next batter cleared the bases (grand slam in the Giants case, 3-run double for the ’99 Orioles).
Plunk Everyone
Your website is cracking me up.
