Padres snap Rockies' streak with 6-4 win, remain in 1st place

DENVER - SEPTEMBER 13: Heath Bell #21 Aaron Cunningham #28 and Miguel Tejada #10 of the San Diego Padres celebrates the Padres 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on September 13 2010 in Denver Colorado. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

The game has been over for a few hours but I'm still expecting someone to tell me that Rockies rushed out on the field to make a comeback when the Padres were in the showers. I haven't heard anything though so I think this Padres win is in the books.

I caught the early innings watching a really small picture-in-picture on Jon's TV while he watched the Chargers game.  I somehow missed the entire 5th inning when the majority of the scoring took place though.  It's probably for the best I would have had a heart attack or least a mild case of indigestion if I had seen that one guy hit a 3 run homer off the Pads.

I listened to the rest of the game on the radio as I drove around San Diego.  I heard Ted Leitner telling fans about the Humidor conspiracy.  Apparently a bench coach, a couple managers and a General manager (none of them Padres) told him that the Rockies use the humidor to their advantage.  To Rockies fans it sounds like a crazy conspiracy.  Here's the thing about me:  I'm very open minded about conspiracy theories... very open minded.  I'm not going to make any grand proclamations... but I will give the humidor the stink eye if we ever meet.

Go Padres!

The Rockies cheat.

Huge Win for the Padres!!

Biggest win of the year to snap Colorado’s streak in Colorado and take back sole possession of first place. Just wish Luebke could’ve gotten the win.

Also wish the chargers could have won that stupid game too, but oh well much bigger game for the Pads.

Who would have thought...

that one of the Padres most important games would be won by Cory Luebke, Miguel Tejada and Oscar Salazar (not to mention Big Ern and Webb). This is going to be an exciting finish.

I would take Cory off of that list.

No, he stays

He was great through 4 2/3 innings, that was until he tanked. He’s good; better than LeBlanc and Correia.

While everyone was whining bout the charger tongith

(okay, me included)

i was also the only person at Effins to bring up the fact that THE PADRES WON AND ARE IN FIRST PLACE.

And one of the bartenders loved me for it. He announced it in the bar. and he played “blow me away” and me and him bonded over heath bell. and then he gave us free shots and told us to come back next week for Padres trivia. P.S. we WON trivia tonight. Not the Chargers trivia (we got 2nd place) but we won world capitals trivia. WOOOOO

I need new pants.

My friends and I usually try Shakespeare, but it gets too crowded and is filled with pro-Great Britain propaganda.

It's fun!

That was my first time doing trivia night there. Or anywhere for that matter. But yeah, it was a good time and we won free alcohol.

Also, it wasn’t very crowded because 1) It was a Monday night and 2) a lot of people left the bar depressed after the Chargers game.

Nice win!

I've met the humidor

I went to college in Boulder and took a tour of Coors Field. If I knew then what I know now, humidor would have gotten more than the stink eye. Another funny thing about the tour was the tour guide was so proud of his NL champ ring. I mean I know we haven’t won a WS but it seemed pretty lame to have an NL ring. Last but not least, guy had a huge smirk on his face when he showed us a picture of Halladay not touching home. Someone asked if he actually touched home and they guy had some smart ass comment insinuating that he didn’t.

As for last night’s game. Pen was great, Adrian’s DP to get out of the 8th was big time and it was definitely nice to see Tejada and Ludwick do some damage.

I turned on the game and it was 2-0

I then thought better of watching anymore. I felt like my eyes would jinx them, they never seem to play well when I watch. So I watched from a distance with gameday updates on my iphone.

was at the game last night...

the bottom of the fifth was excruciating. many well-struck balls before tulowitzski’s (sp) home run—Luebke seemed pretty clearly to be done to me, but apparently not to Buddy. other deep observations: Carlos Gonzalez is scary; Cunningham is fast, but not fast enough; Giambi’s at bat against Adams made me light-headed; i did not have fish tacos.

by hbar on Sep 14, 2010 10:01 AM PDT reply actions

If the Rockies are going to cheat

they should just break out the heavy balls right away, in the 1st inning. Then they’d be winning all their games by like 30 runs.

Or would that be too suspicious?
