Padres shut out Giants, remain in 1st place

The Giants have no concept of personal space.  With a win today the Padres take one big step away from them and remain in sole possession of first place in the division.

Tim Stuaffer has really stepped up for a struggling rotation.  He threw 6 scoreless innings and worked himself out of some tight spots.

Yorvit Torrealba's opposite field home run into the Petco porch was the difference maker today.  It was all the Padres pitchers needed.  Heath Bell recorded his 40th save.  Win #80 is in the books.

Tomorrow is Latos vs. Lincecum.  Can't wait.  Get down to the Park!!

Go Padres!

I wish I could have been at that game

It looked pretty epic. And I could have whipped peanuts at Giants fans applauding a Gonzilla K. WHAT. THE. FCUK.

It was an awesome crowd.

I got a Giants fan a couple rows in front of me all pissy when I called out Uribe for playing dirty last night. It was great.

"Get down to the Park!!"

As a fan, does jbox trying to shame you into attending increase your likelihood of buying a ticket? To me it’s a total turn off. It’s tacky and it sounds desperate.

Nup - sums it up for me

Who wouldn’t want to get down to the park after a game like that after a season like this – just wish I could fly over for it :), though my Aussie Rules football team came from behind for a playoff win for the ages last night, so what I need is teleportation!

No, don't you see the lack of question marks?

Totally makes me want to get down to the ballpark.

I need new pants.

I know today wasn't the day because of the close score...

….but I really hope we get a big lead tomorrow so Latos can put a 96-mph fastball in Uribe’s back.

And when I say “in his back”….I mean I want that ball to have to be surgically removed from him.

That shit he pulled Friday night was a bitch move and that bitch team needs to get a strong message that we will not put up with that.

They hit Huff twice already

Maybe Huff needs to “take care of busines” with Uribe. And by “business” I mean…well…y’all get the idea. :-)

I almost feel

Like they should hit Huff every time he comes up.

Almost.

Maybe you, Mat.

But the Huff hits weren't the kind that I'm talking about.

In fact, I think both of those were completely unintentional. I want Uribe to come to the plate and the first pitch he sees hits him in the middle of his back…..hard. I want there to be no doubt what just happened.

Best and most important line:

the talkative young blond guy who drops by late on nights the Padres are in town, gabbing with the bouncers, eating appetizers and bowling the occasional game – left-handed.

What an incredible game.

Great crowd, too. I must say, one of the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen at a ballgame. About 6 rows back an old man looked to have died. EMT’s rushed to help him. They forced him water and it seemed like he wasn’t moving. All the while, the crowd was cheering like crazy while all I could think about was how this old man was about to die at the game. Yorvit hit his bomb. Everyone was going nuts, and this man had EMT’s wrapped around him. Finally, they carried him down the stairs, arms wrapped around one EMT and his waste being supported by another. Obviously, I hope the man is okay, but, as my Father-in-law pointed out, that’s got to be one of the best ways to go. Hot dog, beer, baseball game, peace. That’s it.

Oh internet, what a wicked web you weave.

definitely believin'

Being at this game was phenomenal. Afterwards, my [giants fan] friend wrote, “LOL Padres. Way to celebrate like you just won the NL West. See ya tomorrow.” Seeing the boys celebrate like that must have scared him. Playing [and winning] with that kind of intensity is just the thing that is going to keep the Pads in first place. GO PADS!!! GO LATOS!!!
