    I just have a feeling

based on nothing more than my drunk observation, that TGJR would have helped us out in a few games running down balls Denorfia made “close” but ended up blowing the game wide open.

    This

I took his contributions for granted during most of this season because he was underperforming at the plate. Seeing the Padres struggle to make do without legitimate CFs is frustrating…is Freddy Guzman still playing ball?

    Agree

TGJR defesne is clutch. We pride ourselves on pitching and defense and when our second best defender (probabably the most crucial) is out, it really hurts the team.

A healthy TGJR back out in CF is a huge huge pick up.

By not having Manny as an outgoing player at the end of the season Ned doesn’t have to deal with LA media trying to figure out if they’ll re-sign him. This way he’s just another free agent.

As for Kuroda staying… that’s just the Dodger way. No such thing as a rebuilding year.

Trivia To Make You Feel Better

Up until yesterday, the Padres, along with the Yankees, White Sox, and Twins, were the only teams to not have a five game losing steak this season.

The Yankees have lost three straight several times while the Twins and White Sox each have a four-game losing streak.

All of the other playoff contending teams have losing streaks of at least five games. Longest losing streaks (amongst playoff contenders) are as follows:

    ATL 9
    COL 8
    SFG 7
    TEX 6
    LAD 6
    TBR 5
    BOS 5
    PHI 5

Darren Smith was talking about the back-end of the rotation

He predicts if Correia tanks tonight, expect a closed-door meeting that ends with Mat Latos starting on Wednesday to salvage win out in Chase Field.

Correia and LeBlanc are the weak links in the rotation, no doubt. But who would we trust between the two if we win the West? Do we call up Corey Luebke from the Minors? Give Stauffer on a shot in the Rotation?

    Two of the five loses

Have been all on Offense. When Blankton shuts you down, you have offense issues. And Friday’s game… we were not patient with an ace. Oswalt averaged only like 10 pitches an inning. Gotta be patient and foul some balls off.

Correia and Frenchy are fine back of the rotation guys who are like 50-50 win guys… you have to win the games that Latos, and Richard give you. Garland is only marginally better than Correia and LeBlanc.

During this stretch, with the exception of Latos...

I feel like our starters have been playing, not like my signature says. But more careful and less aggressive. Our pitchers succeed when they are aggressive, pounding the zone, and keeping pitches down.

by MrDanielX on Aug 31, 2010 1:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Garland's and Richard's starts against the Phillies were really good.

You can’t blame them at all really. They combined to go 14 innings and only allowed 5 runs, 7 hits and 4 walks. That should have been good enough to win both of those games. Poor offense and errors lost those games… not starting pitching.

Though, I do agree that LeBlanc and Correia have looked tentative. LeBlanc needs to realize that if he can’t use the inner part of the plate, then he’s going to continue to get rocked, and he’s going to lose his job. I hope that sinks in… quickly.
