Padres pop up to Dodgers a billion times, lose 1-2

I really felt like we were one win away from finishing the Dodgers once and for all.  With yesterday's embarrassing defeat the Dodgers were almost dead... like zombies.  It reminded me of the second rule of Zombieland... Double Tap.  You've shot the zombie Dodgers once then you turned your back on them instead of shooting them once more to make sure they're really dead.  Double tap Padres... Double tap!

Let's see, what happened?  Miguel Tejada hit a solo shot to give the Padres an early lead.  Chris Denorfia dove for a ball that ended up going to the wall and scoring two runs.  I didn't hate the dive.  Well I did, but I didn't hate the effort.  Denorfia saved a third run from scoring with a beautiful throw to home.  Mat Latos pitched good enough to win, but the umpiring was complete sh_t. Pitch tracker was showing balls right down the center and they were being called balls. The Padres finally got some men on base in top of the 9th but Ryan Ludwick hit into a double play.

Some may say Ted Lilly owned the Padres bats, but I blame the Solar Tsunami. How are you supposed to hit with ionized atoms flying directly at you?

The Giants are on a 21-5 stretch right now and just beat the Rockies 10-0.  The Pads lead cut to one game.  Tomorrow is a MUST WIN GAME!

GO PADRES!

What the hell has become of Gaslamp Ball?

Already ten comments deep into a thread about pop-ups and still no erection jokes?

Pop-up dysfunction or "PUD", is a serious problem not to be made light of.

A little better than .500 ball probably won't get the job done....

But if we go 33 and 23 in the last 56, we might be able to get by with only winning 4 of 10 against SF.

They’ve got a pretty tough next 20 games in the next 3 weeks, even though 10 are at home and 4 of those are against the Cubs; the other home games are 3 each against us and the Reds…. But on the road they have 3 each against the Cardinals and Phillies, and the next 4 against Atlanta.

Of course we still have 14 of the next 17 on the road ourselves, but after this last game against the Dodgers, the only 3 against a team with a winning record are those ones in SF.

I expect we’ll both play about .500 ball in the next 3 weeks and still be within a couple games of each other; after our 10-game road-trip, we have Arizona at home for 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if both SF and SD go 11-9 in the next 20. (Of course I hope we do better than that and they do worse, but I wouldn’t count on either….)

If we only play a little better than .500 the rest of the way, beating the Giants 8 of 10 would do it; 7 of 10 MIGHT….

The Giants are 2 behind in the loss column, but they have 28 games at home left and 26 on the road, whereas we have 26 home games remaining and 30 on the road.

I think 95 wins will win the division, but if we get to 95 only winning 3 against SF, they just might be forcing a one-game play-off; the good news in that case would be that the loser would PROBABLY get the wild-card….

A LONG way to go, though….

Imagine trying your hardest to stay awake, willing the Padres to win

But you fall asleep in the 6th inning and have to check the score online the next morning. I have a sad.

Because we want some but I have a narrow urethra.

Giants have a pretty tough August

They play the Braves this weekend in Atlanta for 4, then get a breather with the Cubs for 4. After that is when I think we put some distance between us, they play us then at the Phills and Cards, and then the Reds.

A former Dodger fan, I have come around to the Padres . . . .

. . . . . . but not just because I live in Portland, home of the Beavers. My conversion is a more unusual one. I explain it here http://www.diamondcutlife.org/transportations-version-of-the-san-diego-padres/

As a daily bike commuter, my hat is off to you. Keep up the good work.

I tweeted this last night, but it's worth repeating

There were more Padres fans at last night’s game than at any game I’ve been to at Dodger Stadium in 4 years. I loved it. I didn’t love losing, though. We’ll kick ass tonight.
