Padres lose to Phillies in extras, 3-2. Violence ensues in my imagination.
Tough loss tonight. I honestly think that if I saw Jayson Werth on the street, I would have to consciously keep myself from spitting on him and then punching him in the throat. Same goes for Foulweather Fans. I'm just saying. Like if I'm at the game and some f_ckface foulweather Padres fan is wandering outside the ballpark shouting, "Just like the Padres!" after tonight's game? I think I would have to break his knees.
And you know there are fans at the ballpark saying stuff like that tonight. Because they're bitches.
Anyways. You can tell I'm bummed. I wouldn't really do any violence. I'm very much a pacifist.
Except for the Jayson Werth thing. I'd literally break that dude's windpipe with my knuckles and bite off his nose.
Go Padres.

pssst. I'm not really mad.
In fact, just typing the post was enough for me to vent and I’m totally fine. We will take this series!
I know i'm beating a dead horse
but that strikezone the ump called really pissed me off tonight.

Whoah, there!
Let’s not get graphic, Dex…but if they pull that crap tomorrow regardless of the outcome, then you can go nuts.

Personally
I’m pissed off at the ill-advised stolen base attempts in the 2nd inning.
by Zach (maestro876) on Aug 27, 2010 11:08 PM PDT reply actions
Yeah
But Ludwick and Headley aren’t. Even if they don’t score, they at the very least make Oswalt throw more pitches, and make him leave the game earlier, which gives us an extra inning against their bullpen.
by Zach (maestro876) on Aug 27, 2010 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions
I concur
I was bad business to try and take them. Ludwick’s success rate is a whopping 0%. Every time he’s tried this season, he’s failed (it’s 50% for career). Headley’s good at 80%, which is high enough to try it in most situations, but there were already two out. Risking the last out requires an even higher success rate, because losing your last out obviously kills your inning, whereas losing the first one means you can still score.
by I8EtoDunbar on Aug 28, 2010 10:36 AM PDT up reply actions
Agreed on Ludwick
Not so much for Savior, he’s much better at it. Although if Lud was on ahead of him, Savior probably doesn’t even attempt that one.

Such a shame.
I really wanted to see a walk off, and so many opportunities. I am glad we got a couple innings more on a balk though. Hah. On a positive note the Giants lost 6-0

Aw, f**k!!
#Padres Jerry Hairston will be placed on the disabled list tomorrow. Bud Black said the team is still working through a corresponding move.

Not as bad as you think
You can kind of smuggle players onto the playoff roster if they’re on the DL on August 31. It’s possible for them to come back and still be eligible for the postseason. This way, you can get another guy onto the team by August 31, and you can make a decision down the stretch to keep the guy on the DL or to bring him off and bounce someone later.
Flexible roster is flexible.

Or should he had spent 5 years in the minors like Wainwright
Who apparently is one of the only successful “inverted w” throwing motion
Moment of clarity
i don't think they're dumb enough to risk pushing him for that
they still need other starters but with the picks they’re stockpiling they should have plenty to contend in good time (and ideally for a while)
It has officially been
2 weeks since Tate’s been in a game, and over 3 weeks since he’s played a full 9 innings.

2. I highly recommend the piece in SI about Werth in last week’s issue. Confirms just about everything we’ve thought about him. (Too lazy to look up link.)

That was Roy Oswalt last night
I don’t know if you’re familiar with his work, but he pretty much only throws strikes.

Man
Just woke up, last night’s game was fun and ended with the big suck. I can’t stand Phillies fans, they are very similar to the Doyer fans except they wear red. Think they are entitled to win, I’m pretty sure they just got swept by the Astros and are chasing us, maybe a little respect would be nice, nope.
I hope we put the hurt on them today, and I mean hurt. I don’t want to see Dex in jail so I hope the Padres pick it up. If not, I’m calling riots outside of Petco tonight.

I think JerrHair may have aggravated his shoulder signalling the Lidge balk. Dude’s flamboyant.

To quiet the phils fans on the way out of the park, my brother and I did the tomahawk chop chant.
I walked through the doggy zone several times and they weren’t any smellier or obstructive than the children who’re normally there.
Leaving for game 2 now!!!!

My 3 cents worth...
Man Oswalt is a great pitcher. Then again, Latos had a very mature outing, not getting rattled, pitching out of games and generally gaming. Really nice to see him waiting on the field after Venafail robbed Werth of the HR. I laughed at that.
Can we get an umpire who doesn’t use a magic 8 ball to decide balls & strikes? that was ridiculous.
WTF with the steals – whoever got the stopwatch on the Phillies pitcher obviously was off. We had Oswalt going backwards and giving up two outs when we were consistently hitting off him was the most stupid thing I’ve seen Budbot do. Especially when Ludwick was out by about 60 feet, why do it again?
Bummer we didn’t win it
Good game, bad result
My section was about 75% Phillies fans, and there was this one guy that kept looking back at us asking why we had no energy. I’m like, “Dude, you can’t even hear me over all this red.” By the time the 9th was over I had lost my voice.
I’ve always loved Will Venable. That catch was amazing. Mat looked great, the only real mistake he made was caught by Will, the rest were pretty much grounders that found holes. I couldn’t see inside/outside from where I sat, but the ump seemed very inconsistent on the low strike calls.
