Bummer.

Hope he has a full recovery.

This is a terrible thing for the Padres. - Jerry Coleman

Dibble's rant
"So for me, a little bit has to be put back on Strasbug here. Ok, you throw a pitch, it bothers your arm, and you immediately call out the manager and the trainer? Suck it up, kid. This is your profession. You chose to be a baseball player. You can’t have the cavalry come in and save your butt every time you feel a little stiff shoulder, sore elbow.
“I mean, excuse me. There’s guys I played with that had screws holding their elbows together. Chris Sabo played two weeks on a broken ankle. I put a steel plate in my wrist so I could be back in five weeks instead of three months. So, this is your choice. You can either suck it up and be a man at 22 making $2 million a year [with] a $15 million contract, or every time you get an ache and pain you can go out of the game and say I’m gonna let down the other 24 guys right here and possibly end up forfeiting the game.”

Apparently no one ever told Dibble

That pain is the only way your body has of telling you, “Hey, this thing is breaking, you better rest so I can try and repair it.”

Instead he thinks, “Screw you body, you don’t know what’s good for you. Now watch me stretch my tendon with this 97 MPH heater.”

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

This is why

I stated when he was drafted he was not worth his contract demands. Too many things can happen to a kid on his way to the majors and once he hits the majors. I don’t deny his talent, but his contract was high risk even for someone who was a sure thing.

He should get back just in time to have one good year before he is arbitration eligible.

by field39 on Aug 27, 2010 10:37 AM PDT up reply actions

I am not debating that

I think the guy has all the talent. I am just opposed for huge contracts to prospects that are not at MLB. I honestly believe the Nats would of been better off as an organization to take that $15M and sign 8-10 top international prospects.

Also, anyone who talks about Tommy John survivors as "coming back stronger"

And maybe that means Strasberg will be better than before, is an idiot. Dropped on their head as a child.

probably a misunderstood result

probably a few, threw harder after TJ not because the surgery gave them a bionic arm, but more likely its probably the first time they have thrown injury and pain free in a long time.

Right

The myth also comes from a guy who once threw in the mid 90s in the minors, his arm breaks down slowly and is throwing in the low 90s by the time he makes the majors and everyone knows about him and his repertoire. Then, he gets the surgery and is back throwing with a decently constructed elbow for the first time since back in the minors when nobody was noticing.

I'm not much of a believer in karma and such

and I certainly don’t mean to imply that Stras deserves it, but combine our surprise season with this injury news and remember that we didn’t roll over against the Nats in 2008 when the #1 pick was on the line. The baseball gods clearly do not approve of shenanigans.

Wow, that sucks.

Tough break for someone who seemed to be a level headed and mature young player (despite the Boras shenanigans, but this is why you get yours when you can I suppose).

Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...

This sucks

With his stuff, he could make a nice closer for us down the road post-bell & it would limit his pitch count?
