Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Padres lose by a billion

"Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast." LOL, We sure do love a good Anchorman quote! Right guys?.

Kevin Correia really bit the big one this afternoon.  I wasn't worried about the first four runs because the Padres are really good at scoring 5 runs as they showed in the 8th inning.  I some how missed how they scored five.  I know Adrian Gonzalez hit a grand slam, maybe he hit it so far that they gave him 5 runs. The only problem, as minor as it seemed at the time, was that by the 7th they were down by a eleven.

Oh well, it's on days like this that I admire our sportsmanship rather than the score.

Also I'm real worried about the way Andy and Jerry were describing Chris Denorfia's injury.  As goes Denorfia, so goes the Padres.  He's my favorite.

[Note by jbox, 08/26/10 7:21 PM PDT ]

619Sports Twitter:

Denorfia's injury was not an injury according to himself & Bud Black, just a "big-time cramp". Good news.

Whew!

Go Padres!

I was, but I'm not now

A medical staff as good as the Padres can easily tell the difference between a cramp and a strain.

That was everybody on here

Claiming that the injury was fake. The word from the training staff is that his elbow was messed up.

With that type of injury its difficult to evaluate whether rest and rehab will work or whether surgery will work

The best training staff in the world would have done the same. That process is hard. Strain vs. Cramp not in the same ballpark difficulty-wise. So, no more making a mountain out of a mole hill, k?

Was that what happened with Carrillo?

Or was that just wishful thinking?

by sdchicken on Aug 26, 2010 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes

You want to avoid TJ surgery as much as possible, so if there’s any chance rest and rehab will work you usually go for it unless the player would rather have surgery (which a lot do).

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't

by Wonko on Aug 26, 2010 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

I would think surgery is the last resort option

But it’s so commonplace to see pitchers go through TJ surgery nowadays :-/

Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...

by sdchicken on Aug 26, 2010 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I know, but

The rest and rehab route is a couple months. TJ is a year and a half. For pitchers at least.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't

by Wonko on Aug 26, 2010 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, oops

Didn’t mean to make it sound like TJ was the ideal route. I’m more or less surprised at how routine it is nowadays. Hell, newly drafted pitchers seem to be going through it more often.

Ehhhh, I don't deserve a signature...

by sdchicken on Aug 26, 2010 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think its more often

Newly drafted pitchers are just more known now. You’d have to have read Baseball America’s actual physical publication to hear about it 15 years ago. But, that was back with the “Lost Generation” of draft picks with arm problems, when TJ wasn’t as effective as it is now, which has as much to do with the rehab process as the actual surgery.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

So this guy on craigslist was offering tix for the game...

He offered to meet us at the park. Turned out it was a scam, he never showed up. Shoulda taken it as a sign from the baseball gods to NOT go, but we ended up going anyways since we were there and got cheap seats for $30. Not even the free tacos were worth it…

I would argue that, on this site at least...

If anything his D was over appreciated.

Almost everyone here wanted him and his .215 avg (yes I know batting average sucks, but its the only number I’ve got off the top of my head) playing every day.

by sdchicken on Aug 26, 2010 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Exactly, he projects as a somewhat decent fourth OF that could play CF in a pinch

But, you’re hurting the club to play him there everyday. Especially as a rookie. You’re better off with Hairstons in the OF.

You're overracting

I mean its not the same when they say they like someone, but he’s got a bad baseball body at age 18 as when they really like someone, see him for a number of years, see that he’s not developing like they hoped he would, see him settle into being a certain type of player all the way up to AAA and make an evaluation.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
