Hawpe
Corey Brock tweets:
Hearing the #Padres will pass on Hawpe, who is a FA. Remember, every Padres move has a defensive component to it. Not just about offense.
Like when we got Miggy's golden glove to play shortstop

plus, Miggy at shortstop and Eck at second
means JerHair in left against lefties? That sure was an adventure last night, folks.
I was dating this girl from Canada... after about a month I found out she didn't know what sport the Padres played, she thought "padre" was spelled p-o-d-r-a-y and she thought it was some kind of a fish. Dealbreaker.
You would think that all of this winning would be recognized in some numerical way by, say,
The Sports Illustrated Power Rankings
Bart: But, dad, you're giving in to mob mentality.
Homer: No, I'm not! I'm hopping on the bandwagon. Now, come on, son. Get with the winning team.
That is amazing.
Finally, we are getting some respect from the Suits.

Awesome
We’ve been #2 on some other power rankings but it’s great to get this. And yeah, power rankings are mostly meaningless but it’s still fun to see.

Even without Pettitte and ARod?
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
well no, not without them. How long are they out for though?

They are out right now
That’s all that matters for a snapshot poll, right?

no according to ESPN
we don’t even have the top 9 pitching of contenders….and ESPN knows all. That is why detectives us it to talk to dogs to figure out a murder.
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
I think so, too
but it seems like they win by 11 runs every game

We've been #3 on ESPN for weeks

Like the Brewers [in 2008], most of these teams get one year, then it’s five or six waiting for another window."
All of our talent is young. I can’t see the window closing so soon.
Let’s just hope the current group of scouts are identifying the right talent to fit this club’s needs. How much credit should be given to Sandy for turning this team around, and how much credit do you give DePodesta?
"I'll tell you about it because I am here and you are distant."
Look at what happened to the DBacks from couple of years ago.
Gaslamp Ball Game OT: "Makes you happy in the pants"
"Even Jedis don't stand a chance against our bullpen."
they had pitching
and then they didn’t? Because of injuries and bad trades.
"I'll tell you about it because I am here and you are distant."
That's a quote from Jed.
If so, he could very well be LYING, and have every intention of keeping this team competitive.
The point of the Padres is that they’re a bunch of unknowns…that’s because no one knows anybody who doesn’t get on ESPN. All you really need to do is to aggressively scout college, high school, and minor league games outside your own system, and make sure to know what to look for.
From there, it’s quite obvious which players can help you, and even better, they’ll be cheap because no one else has any interest in them.

How do you know that was a quote from Jed?
"I'll tell you about it because I am here and you are distant."
Because it says so.
“There are surprise teams built on high draft picks and planning,” the G.M. told Tom Verducci in this week’s SI, “and others that just have a special year. I love San Diego, but it could be one of those special years. Like the Brewers [in 2008], most of these teams get one year, then it’s five or six waiting for another window.”

According to one general manager, however, it may be important for San Diego to maximize their chances this season.

That's the sentence preceding it
No mention of Jed. Just a random GM. 1 in 30 chance of being Jed.
