Given our successful weekend, I am ready to make some daring statements regarding who I WANT to see make the playoffs.

NL West  - Padres

NL Central - Reds

NL East - Braves

NL Wildcard - Giants

Why these four teams?  Well, we Padre fans want our team to make it.  That's simple enough.  We have totally owned the Giants this year.  So, hopefully they will make it, allowing us to own them if we see them in the playoffs.

I live in Atlanta, and I would love to see the Padres play the Braves in Atlanta... so long as I can find a "padres" section.  Those Braves fans are pretty... scary.   Also, I think we can take the Braves.  They are getting injured, and their pitching is about the same as ours, but we have the defensive edge.

As for the Reds, I think we can crush them in a playoff series.   I'm hoping a few of their young arms fall off between now and October, although not before winning the division (over the Cardinals).

If these four teams make the playoffs, I think the Padres go to the World Series.

The only wildcards are St. Louis and Philadelphia.  The Philies have been injured, and hopefully they remain that way until the end of the season.  But the Cardinals are dangerous.  I think Jaime Garcia is going to continue to fade (ERA from 2.10 to 2.72 since early July), but Wainright and Carpenter are the best 1-2 starters out there.  Hopefully the Cardinals weak 4-5 spots will continue to hamper them.  The Phils have a great threesome (Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt), but their injuries really make it difficult for them to overtake the Braves (I hope).

Anyways, this last weekend felt great.  We took 2 of 3 from the Giants, and we could have taken all three.
