Dunn-da-Dunn-Dunn - Padres drop series to Nationals

Ugh.  Padres gave up three home runs to Adam Dunn.  THREE!

Jon Garland didn't have control of his fastball and was leaving it up on a tee.  The Padres offense again battled back.  Adrian Gonzalez, Chris Denorfia and Matt Stairs all homered.  Nick Hundley hit a clutch double too, but it wasn't enough.

Padres season series record is now 16-9-3.

Game tomorrow is not televised.  Must defend against sweep!  MUST WIN GAME!

Why was Thatch left in to pitch the 8th?

Seems like that should be triforce territory.

Like the Dodgers, we couldn't keep winning every 1-run game we play.

But our pitchers should be better, so these aren’t 1-run games.

For those who are interested in what's going on in the minors,

Nick D’Amico and Ty Wright were released today. D’Amico was a NDFA, and 1-17, so no real surprise there. Wright wasn’t very good either, and dropped a HUGE and easy pop up last night, as well as tore his acl over the winter. Wright’s an OF, so hopefully we’ll see Tate up here soon!

haha, Holliday has two HRs tonight

Padres fans hate him because he never touched the plate.
Rockies fans hate him because he signed with another team and is pulverizing them in Colorado.
Cardinals fans hate him because he dropped a sure out that would have won a playoff game.

Nobody likes him!

I think these losses piss me off

Because they’re winnable games, and with the NL West as tight as it is, we need every win we can get.

I was there at the game

Actually saw a good group of Padres jerseys around me in the field-level seats behind the visitors’ dugout.

Pretty upsetting to come away with another close loss though. But I guess when you give up three homeruns to a single batter that usually means trouble. Only bright side I guess is that we got two homers from pinch hitters and 13 hits is a very solid outing for our offense.

The good news

is that we are not facing Jimenez

It was good news before this series that we weren't facing Stras.

Fat load of good that did us.

This is getting ugly quick.

There are five more games until the break and the pitching staff has hit the wall.

Well it looks like the pitching staff is finally slowing down a bit

In the two losses to the Nationals we have had more than enough runs to win. I can’t expect the pitching staff to pitch gems every night but we can’t just lose it now. We have played excellent all year, now is not the time to start losing. I think this upcoming series with Colorado is huge. We play bad and lose, it could really mess with our psyche, we win and we are right back on a roll in command of the West.

Luckily we have the real savior pitching tomorrow…order will be restored.

Hopefully Latos won't feel the pressure

because this is a Huge Game….

Then we have to slow down Colorado and find a way to win 2 of 3 at Coors.

by jctess on Jul 8, 2010 1:58 AM PDT up reply actions

2 of 3 at Coors is out of the question,

The best we can possibley due is one more win before the break.

The Rockies flat out own The Padres.

If they are going to get one more win before the break, the only opportunity is tonight.

Let's just not even play

because you’ve already determined the winners on paper.

As it turns out,

I do not have any influence over the contest.

If you look at past performance, you will see that The Padres do not play well against the Rockies. This would be a good time for that trend to change, but currently the Padres are playing poorly and the Rockies are on fire.

If I look at past performance

the Padres just don’t play well at all, so what good is looking at it?

Okay,

you’re right. We’re gonna get swept by the Rockies. That’s good, I don’t have to watch the next three games then.

Hey, Dex and jbox, did you hear that? No point in putting up OTs for the next three games because past performance tells us we’re not gonna win anyway. Let’s all thank field39 for bringing this awareness to GLB so we can all spend the next three nights doing things that are more productive than watching Padres baseball.

It’s just a good thing we won tonight. That meets our must-win-one-more-before-the-All-Star-Break quota. It was the best we could possibley due and WE DID IT!

I need new pants.
