Padres make miraculous comeback only to lose on walk off homer
Clayton Richard had an off day, making one of his worst starts, but the Padres offense picked him up with a late 3 run rally. I thought for sure the Padres were going to play the part of the Team of Destiny again when Salazar's speed forced an error that brought in the tying run.
With the score tied 5-5, Third Base Coach Glenn Hoffman sent Jerry Hairston Jr. for the go ahead run but he was thrown out at the plate. I think I would have sent him too, but I'm crasy, he was out by a mile on a perfect throw.
In the bottom of the 9th Zimmerman hit a walk off homer to dead center off Luke Gregerson.
Tomorrow we get win number 50. It's decided.

Sucks being on the losing side for once
Wasn’t watching tv so how close was the play at the plate? Sure wasn’t expecting Gregorson to give up a HR to his first batter, on the flip side, looked like Adams had an easy 8th.
In other news, looks like Bell has no shot to make the all star team. Heard Gallardo went to the DL, anyone think Latos has a chance?
Mat Latos is the real deal...Go Lakers, Pads, and Bolts
Jerry was speeding around second, then something must have happened as he was starting to round third...
in retrospect, perhaps he was beginning to slow, not thinking that Glen was going to wave him home, then, at the last second, Glen, being the daredevil that he is, came out with the megaphone and said, “WTF! LETS JUST DO THIS! RUN, JERRY, RUN LIKE THE WIND!” To which Jerry responded as best he could, giving his best interpretation of the wind, as best he could on a HOT and HUMID day. And as we all know, it is rare that the wind does “run” on such days, which is why Jerry slowed to a crawl, and was eventually thrown out at the plate while resembling muggy stale air.
thanks for that, Glen.

Adams had an easy 8th
and should have gone out for the 9th as well. No hindsight: I said it at the time.
Professional pitchers shouldn’t be limited to one inning when it’s clear they’re on.
I don’t want to hear any crap about “players have to know their role” either. Is it Gregerson’s “role” to pitch the 9th? No. So you put in a guy who struggled in his last outing (MIGHTILY) in a situation he’s not used to, as opposed to staying with a guy who struck out two and got a grounder to first.
Bud Black Fail.
I kind of want to start
announcing the Foul Weather Fan of the game. Just to call out these people that just drop in to hate on the Padres when they lose.

You have to send him in that situation.
WIth 2 outs, take the chance, because knowing the Padres they arent going to get that extra single to bring in the run. Great comeback though, cant wait for tomorrows game.
Oh no!
Sad to see Clayton get lit up tonight, and to see a walk off homer given up by Lukerson. But tomorrow shall be ours!

Jerry was out by ten feet.
These are professionals, why run yourself out of an inning betting that a Professional is going to throw the ball offline; if the throw was off line, Jerry could have reacted at that point while round third and then scored. I just dont get it.

Because if you hold him, then your expecting to get another hit off the Professional pitchter
The odds were not in the Padres favor of getting another hit to bring in the run. I understand your logic, but I dont blame Hoffman for taking that chance.

Can we stop giving up homers to Zimmerman?
Like a quarter of his bombs this year have been against us.

force the defense to make a play. the Nationals defense is crap on a stale wheat thin.
he made the right decision in my opinion, their defense just made a good play.

it was probably the only good defensive play they made all game
they threw away a gimme DP ball to let the tying run score!
Salazar would have made it a close call, he was sprinting down the line like I'd never seen him before.

Should have stayed put at 3rd

He was out by a mile
Glenn should have been able to pick that up.
He is a professional 3rd base coach, no?

Rox are the darkhorse in the Division
We need to beat those guys…and I have a feeling we’ll have to face Ubaldo again before we’re through.

The problem, to state the obvious, is not Zimmerman:
it was Gregerson…. Looks as though he needs to be shut down more than Latos….
After having been lights out, he’s now responsible for our last two losses.
It happens.
He just made a mistake last night. He thought he could sneak one down the middle to get ahead 0-2, but Zimmerman was sitting fastball and crushed it. It wasn’t even like he hung a slider, as he looked to have pretty good control of it from the previous pitch.
Luke is going to have to be really careful with his fastball, because it’s not that good a pitch. He uses it solely to mix things up and keep hitters from solely sitting on his slider. He can’t throw it down the middle like that, because it’s not good enough to let him get away with mistakes. He needs to spot it on the corners and edges.

Absolutely
Hopefully his next appearance won’t be when it’s a tie game…. Preferably a 3-run or at least a 2-run lead…. Of course we haven’t had one of those since last Friday night….
I hate the Nationals
and their snazzy uniforms.

I would send him
I have no idea why Jerry ended up running so slowly from 3rd to home. I’m sure he’d tell you he was tired. I just found it surprising how tired and slow he was moving. I expected more, didn’t get it, moving on.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
