I know that we shouldn’t care about not getting national credit and whatnot, but sometimes it is really frustrating.
I was at a sports bar on Friday and they didnt carry the Padres game (already annoying), but they had baseball tonight on and up through the 7th inning or so they only showed highlights of Oswalt dominating. They even showed him striking out Mat Latos. WTF. Not a mention of how good Latos was really basically until we took the lead.

I just assume SD players are doomed in these things. Also, Carlos Gonzalez has been great this year and there are players from big markets up against him in there. I think it’ll be a tough one to win. At least Heath gets more publicity than other Padres.

Other than the one mistake, he’s been solid today. I have to say, when Wade is “on”, he’s one of the best in our rotation. Unfortunately, I still find myself tensing up with every pitch he throws.

Seems like more often than not, Wade is going a solid 6 or 7 innings and only giving up a couple of hits. Problem is when he’s bad, he’s really bad. (Fortunately, that hasn’t been too often.)

took awhile to sink in…not a single Padres pitcher named to ALL STAR game ? Best team ERA in all of baseball. Travesty.

it is a travesty
but I look at it this way:
- Most teams have one great pitcher who puts up the gaudy numbers and a bunch of scrubs dragging the team down. the Padres don’t necessarily have that one great starter (Latos will be this guy soon) who will draw your eye with his numbers but they’re pretty much all solid, all-around. Would you rather have Ubaldo or J.Johnson and four crappy pitchers, or five guys who all range from good to great?
- The Pen-itentiary is absolutely filthy, but the only thing ASG voters will use to judge relievers is saves, which is about as arbitrary as picking your starters from their W-L record only.
- I’ve been brokenhearted by seeing Padre relievers give up ASGs in the recent past too much. Let them make the most of the break and we’ll rub it in the National League’s face when we go to the World Series.

I know that he has ace stuff
but he is “only” 8th in the NL in ERA and nowhere near the top in Ks. the voters don’t care about WHIP or BAA and Charlie Manuel is a country boy who thinks those words have something to do with farms.
my point is that the team ERA is best in the bigs because virtually every pitcher on the team has good numbers, not because there are one or two guys who are leading the world in the big stats—and those are the guys who are going to get into the ASG.
