Middle infield depth

I think it would be a good idea to sign Khalil Greene again, since he's a free agent and would most likely sign for a low amount. He has a good glove at shortstop and can drive in runs (more than Cabrera), which is what we'll need if we want to make a good playoff run. Adrian, Chase, and Khalil would be a good 3, 4, 5 combo in my opinion. I believe it's worth a shot, what do you guys think?

Jesus.

This assumes that Khalil returns to a form he lost while playing in the Big Leagues. You think he can recapture his 27 homer season now? And let’s imagine he was good. This is your upgrade for 3,4,5? Explain to me why any upgrade at 3,4,5 still include Headley batting 4th.

Oh internet, what a wicked web you weave.

I like Khalil

But the last anyone’s heard, he’s completely psyched himself out of baseball. He’s a free agent by choice at this point and he’s choosing not to return to baseball.

I really hope he's doing okay

Saaaaaaame here.

I really like and am fascinated by the guy… and even if not, he’s been through a hell I’d wish on no one.

MLBTR is reporting that the Angels may become sellers.

What does everyone think about picking up Maicer Izturis for infield depth? He can play 2B, SS and 3B, is controllable through 2012. I’ve seen him play at Angels stadium and he has a little pop and decent speed.

TBD

He is currently an active player.

We’re getting back on the right track.

I was a HUGE Khalil fan. I still dont think he would be a good fit. You cant have a guy with social anxiety in a club house with OUR team now. OUR guys get along too good to throw a random player in the mix. Especially one thats only going to hit .200 or so. We need a clutch bat. Ill sacrafice no bat with Cabrera for his speed and arm. Just let him bunt everytime hes up, no matter the situation.

Probably.

But everyone has their own opinions. Even those dudes obsessed with Keppinger and Tejada have their opinions. Personally I’d like Asdrubal Cabrera, but things we want aren’t necessarily things we can do or will do.

Next someone is gonna want Quilvio Veras to come back to take over for Eck.

by abara on Jul 29, 2010 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

okay, okay, that was a pretty unrealistic answer

we’re discussing middle infield, and Cammy’s reanimated corpse is probably not suited for 2B or SS

by abara on Jul 29, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

step 1: reanimate the corpse.

step 2: figure out what positions it can play.

I was dating this girl from Canada... after about a month I found out she didn't know what sport the Padres played, she thought "padre" was spelled p-o-d-r-a-y and she thought it was some kind of a fish. Dealbreaker.

while we're talking crazy hypotheticals...

Cammy at third with Headley learning 2nd on the fly is probably an improvement… as long as we get juiced 1996 Cammy.

Didnt Gary Templeton play SS???
I pick him, plus he had a FRO!!!

by PullenHoseFriar on Jul 29, 2010 1:30 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Are we talking long shots?

Here’s one: our former catcher Michael Barrett. He was a first rounder at 3B, and played a whole game at SS in 1999 before he switched to catcher. He’s 33 and playing in AAA for the Mets (hitting .183 overall).

No? Okay, try this: Scott Hairston originally signed as a 2B, and last played 2B in 2008, for the Padres! 1-2/3 innings of error-free ball, and he’s already on the roster!

by wegotballsley on Jul 29, 2010 3:03 PM PDT reply actions

I like the Hairston plan

then we can also get some BroDP action

they already have websites for that.

Not saying I'd do it

Esepcially since the guy still has his demons to conquer, but I do find it amusing to see how much people still dump on Khalil despite the fact that he vastly outperformed Cabrera offensively. I always maintained, and still do, that a fair amount of the hate Khalil received was due to something other than his stats. I think the lack of criticism toward Everth sort of confirms that.
