Why do we keep Matt Stairs?

Stairs looks completely lost at the plate.  He does not have good at bats.  You can argue that he is rusty, etc. But that only pertains to the swing not his approach.  I think the Padres need to cut him.  He is batting .186 and looked horrible Saturday night.

Cut stairs once Adams returns from the DL on Tuesday, July 27.  Keep Ernesto Fieri.  Fieri has looked awesome since being called up.  Can he be the "K-ROD" for the Padres in 2010 like K-ROD for the Angels in 2002?

The DL may be calling

They may want him around the clubhouse and for September.

Whatever Hoyer does or doesn’t do will affect how much we see of Stairs the rest of this month and next; they may or may not need to clear a roster spot.

The worst case scenario for us Padre fans with respect to Frieri is that goes back down to Portland when Adams comes off the DL, and we don’t see him again with the big cub until September.

I agree Stairs has looked pretty lame. One of the main reasons we had him was for him to DH during inter-league play; unfortunately — at least for him, he missed more than half of those games, I think.

Apparently the younger players really look up to him, and he’s a good influence on them (and the team as a whole). Too bad he hasn’t done much between the lines…. — At least not yet. (And he May be running out of chances….)

Old guys have a way of pulling hamstrings, though….

It must be the "veteran presence" in the clubhouse.

The Padres played only six interleague games on the road, the other nine were at home. Stairs was the DH only twice, in Seattle, going 1-4 with an RBI against Snell, and 0-3 against Felix Hernandez, with 2 walks against relievers. Black used Salazar twice, and Scott Hairston and Adrian once each as DH.

Also, at 43, Stairs might be the only active player Bud Black struck out when he was pitching.
