Padres get shut out by the Braves by like a billion
OK. So the Braves beat us. And I'm sure somewhere on the Internet, Jon Morosi is saying, "Yep. I told you so." But the thing is (and the part of it that pisses Padres fans off), the Braves may very well be a better team than the Padres and they may match up better against us, etc. etc... But that doesn't mean the Padres are going to fade. It just means the Braves are really good.
The other thing that it means is that I really want to see what the next two pieces to this Padres team are going to be. This is a playoff team, but I'm not quite sure it's a World Series team. I want it to be a World Series team.
If you need cheering up, the Padres are still 16-7 in blowout games (won or lost by 5+ runs). So we've usually been on the better end of games like today's game.
Tomorrow is another day as the road trip takes us to Pittsburgh. The expectation is sweep, and we'll want to see it get lopsided in time for the Dodgers series after that. It's totally within the Padres' hands to finish off what's left of the Dodgers' playoff hopes. Let's go ahead and do that.

from a atlanta braves fan
congrats on a surprising and very good team this year. bullpen is flat out nasty and you got some gritty players.
Damn straight!
Bad loss, but we’ve bounced back. This will be no different

Coming from a Braves fan
You guys have a great team on your hands. You do the little things right. Your bullpen is downright filthy. Not to mention you’ll be getting Latos, Adams, Eckstein and even Blanks back (or at least that’s what I hear.)
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really a Padres believer before the series, but no more. Bud Black should be the manager of the year, even if I want Bobby to get it in his final season in Atlanta.
Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks, dude.
The Braves are no pushover either.
I sense a potential rematch of the 98 NLCS over the horizon…

With the same result, of course.

If that does come to pass
The two teams meeting in the NLCS, expect a do-or-die, thrilling game 7 photo-finish.

Thanks, buddy.
I knew y’all had a good team down there but this series and especially today’s old fashioned country ass whuppin’ showed me how good. See ya in October, man.

the Braves do the little things right too
that’s why I’ve come to fear them a bit. This season’s bound to get very interesting. I like the Pads consistent approach- one game at a time. Keep the faith.

So the media idiots here in SD
are going on and on about Castro or Luebke for Miguel Tejada. That would be so stupid I can’t even wrap my mind around it.

opponent can't win if they don't score
Padres have shown all year when it’s time to score they get the hits and it’s been better over last 3 weeks

Here's an idea
What if we can get him, but all it costs is Matthew Clark and maybe a low A pitcher?
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
That I would do.
My main beef is giving up something of serious value for him. If we’re giving up Castro or Luebke, I want someone like Corey Hart or Ricky Nolasco in return.

New ownership
This is what really scares me. With K.Towers and Moores you could kind of tell what types of deals would go down by the trade deadline, but Hoyer et.al. have kept everything pretty close to their chest.
not to sure if you saw Castro pitch in the futures game...
he looked pretttttttty bad.

You'd probably duct taped in diapers for the rest of your life.
Gaslamp Ball Game OT: "Makes you happy in the pants"
MLB Network: "Keep believing!"
Heat: "Uhh, no. We know."
On this date in 2007...
…the Padres had won 53 games and there was a lot of talk on GLB about playing in October. You recall how that turned out. It’s a little too early to be tacking the bunting up to the stadium. The stretch is when things get a lot touger, as we all remember.
Yeah, but
That 2007 team ended up with more wins than the 2006 and 2005 teams that actually made the playoffs. Don’t discount what that 2007 team did just because Tony Gwynn’s hit found a good spot, the DBacks rolled over on the last weekend and McClelland assumed that Holliday touched home plate.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Which he didn't.

He sure didn't
That ending beyond sucked; it was almost as bad as the “Holy Roller” for us SD Charger fans; in some ways it was even worse.
But the worst thing about it wasn’t the blown call, but the blown save (not to mention Peavy’s sucking).
And people forget: Holliday’s being out at the plate wasn’t the 3rd out of the inning; Hoffman had squat that game, and he probably would have given up a hit to the next batter and the winning run anyway…. Of course we’ll never know…. (Actually, he might have had to walk the Very Next batter….)
I loved Trevor big-time, and still do love the guy; but efforts like that are why Rivera is the best closer of this generation, despite Trevor’s having accumulated more saves. (Yes, Rivera’s had WAY more post-season opportunities….)
Anyway, it was a great team, and they just couldn’t take care of business those last few games.
why is it that every time we lose someone brings up this game?

from XSD’s post. Sorry if I helped it seem as though we were (or I was) fixated on it: just wanted to get that off my chest. Sorry, Trevor.
Yup.
BP did a study (I think it was BP) and found that the 2007 Padres were one of the best teams of the decade. They had some crap luck at the end of the season. Unfortunately.

Don’t think anyone is going to be trading for him anytime soon.

Now the word is that it probably isn't as bad as initially thought.
And it wouldn’t be unprecedented for him to still get moved. I mean, the White Sox traded for a broken Peavy last year.

Sweep would be nice (of course!)
but I think we’ll take 2 of 3 … and settle for a .500 road-trip. Which is a helluva lot better than the Rockies have just done on their latest one.
Just hedging — in case we do lose one; but of course a sweep would be awesome.
Not just awesome

As someone who has a lot of experience dealing with UVA students/grads
I can tell you that Allen actually falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. God, I hate UVA kids. BTW, Allen, I’m a JMU grad…. you know, THE University of Virginia.

Hopefully I'm not as pretentious as other UVA kids (no crap it's true) though, haha
And to be honest, I really don’t care much about JMU. Y’all have the hottest sorority chicks (um www.thegirlsofmadison.com/ swimsuit calendar) and Harrisonburg seems like a comfy town. Although my water polo coach insists that JMU consists of “purple f*ggots”.

Yeah, I'm just giving you crap.
I actually have no problem with UVA grads… although I have been to Charlottesville a bunch of times and I can say that I definitely wouldn’t have fit in at UVA. I partied there a few times… very preppy, lotta money… not the kind of place that I fit in. But that’s not to say that I didn’t meet some cool people there.
Mostly I would go down to C’ville to see bands play at Trax. I just Googled it and found out the place closed in 2001 (the year I graduated) and was demolished in 2002. That makes me feel old. They had some great shows there though.

It’s beyond ridiculous, almost unfathomable.
And a JMU jab here (haha), I’m still trying to wrap my head around the campus being split by the freeway tunnel. I’m sure you have some scandalous stories involving that
