Futures Game Mini-Road Trip

For those that know me, they know that I follow the Padres minor leagues pretty closely. In fact, I also follow much of the goings-on of the top baseball prospects. So, the Futures Game was right up my alley. Ticket costs to the game were quite prohibitive for an exhibition that featured non-major leaguers, and I was pretty sad about not being able to justify the cost of the game. Fortunately, there's Stub Hub and I got to go with a couple members of my family and a family friend.

Due to my recent venture into soccer fanaticism, I went up early to the OC and caught the World Cup Final at the OC Sports Grill down the street from Anaheim Stadium. The joint was pretty packed and the place was obviously designed to handle big games. I mentioned to Zach (maestro876) that I'd be in his neck of the woods and he volunteered to swing by the sports bar and say hi. A professor that was hellbent on making our encounter impossible kept Zach late at his bar review class and our meet up almost didn't happen. However, Zach did arrive shortly after the soccer game finished (ideal for him because parking became more available). We commiserated about the Padres recent two losses and how they'd blow a 3-0 lead, we made fun of the Angels, we talked about trades and then walked to the Anaheim Stadium entrance. I arrived at the gates about the same time that Matt Belisle threw the ball away that gave the Padres a 7-6 lead in Denver.

When I got to the turnstiles the national anthem was playing and the lines were frozen because of it. I was a little worried that I wouldn't make it to my view level seats in time to see Simon Castro pitched. So I ran. Working off the beer and sports bar fare I'd recently taken in I made it to the top to our sunny seats out of breath and sweating. When I get there the players are still leisurely warming up and I found that Simon Castro wouldn't pitch until the bottom of the inning. Good thing I ran.

As you may know, Castro didn't pitch that great and Drew Cumberland apparently was distracted twice by the catcher asking him why the guy his girlfriend was with had her panties on his head. Anyway, I've got some pics here of the two Padres prospects, which is the real reason I rambled through this FanPost.
