Don't get too pissed off at me here, but I am starting to be ok with the concept. I would really like to hear from those more familiar with stats, and with whats available out there. I am also a little lazy as far as research, so I am hoping some of you can help me fill in the gaps. Hopefully enough of you will see this and comment on it to make a good conversation.
So here are my reasons with thinking Gonzo is expendable:
1) His home and away splits: Anecdotally (see without statistical proof), Adrian seems to be useless in Petco. Yeah he hits some of his HR's here, but not enough. If we want a guy who can hit HR's on the road, we can get a 1B type guy that can hit 20 HR's or so... (a guy like Russell Branyan?). Maybe if Blanks was back at his natural position, we can solve this internally.
2) We need outfield help badly: Scotty is on pace to hit over 20 HR's... but his average and OBP is bad. We need a couple corner outfielders who can make things happen.
3) His own legacy: I am not a selfish guy, if Adrian were out of Petco he would, most likely, have the numbers and legacy he deserves.
Now I am not saying we should just move him for the sake of moving him. I am thinking that if, through a multi-team deal we could get: Two outfielders who can hit for moderate power 20+ HR's and have the baserunning / speed combo to steal 20 bases (see Chase, except faster). Plus a bullpen arm, and a risky 1B power guy or aging vet.
So Adrian for: 2 20/20 Outfielders, 1 1B, and 1 Bullpen arm to replace Mujica.
If this can happen I think we are better without him.
Can this happen?
PS: The preview function was not working for me, so if this looks stupid... my apologies.
