  • Black happy with club's catching situation | padres.com: News
Having to decide between two talented players at any given position is a pleasant problem to have as a manager. Just ask Bud Black.

  • Luebke stronger than ever since return | MiLB.com News | The Official Site of Minor League Baseball
Former first-rounder Cory Luebke allowed one hit over six innings as San Antonio blanked Springfield, 3-0, on Monday.

"We knew we were getting no-hit," Gonzalez said. "But, personally, I felt I’d had some good at bats and Scottie’d had some good at bats, so we knew that there were a couple guys who were seeing ball well against him, so we knew we had a chance."

  • Cozy confines too close for comfort? - SignOnSanDiego.com
"Our seats are directly under the (concourse), so they can’t see us, but the heckling begins as soon as you step out into the open and start warming up," said closer Heath Bell. "Big-time heckling. They rag you good, but at least they know how to heckle here. They’ve made it a science.

  • PADRES: Padres bluff, take high school pitcher with first pick
"We had to use a little slight of hand because we didn't want to tip our hand on this kid," said Jason McLeod, the Padres vice president/assistant general manager. "We've been on this kid the last 2 1/2 months."

  • PADRES: Gonzalez's two late homers spoil Hamels' no-hit bid
"He was Hamels, just made a couple mistakes and we hit the balls out," Gonzalez said. "He only made two bad pitches."

  • Karsten Whitson, Padres first round pick :: Friar Forecast
Overall, Whitson is obviously a highly regarded pitching prospect. The questions regarding his development are questions that follow most any young pitching prospect.

With the lack of any real optimism in our lineup, this could be the kind of a risk a team vastly exceeding everyone’s expectations should take. If nothing else, they can at least point to this and say that they tried, after they move Adrian and Bell for some prospects.

    wtf???

I don’t get it… the fact that someone tweeted that implies that they read twilight…. so, since I have not, I am going to seize the moral high ground here and say…

You're lucky I'm a lazy ass, because I tweeted about the Jacob Edward thing like a year ago.

But I am, so I’m not going to go looking through my tweets to prove that you stole it from me.

    I need new pants.

jbox borrowing material, huh? Maybe I should make a fanpost exposing his exploits.

by theodore donald kerabatsos on Jun 8, 2010 10:58 AM PDT up reply actions

Why are you linking that fanpost here?

you should send it over to Deadspin so you can get more attention.

by jbox on Jun 8, 2010 11:00 AM PDT up reply actions

Were you honestly offended by that?

I left it in Deadspin tips because I thought it was somewhat funny/stupid. It really never occurred to me to link to the GLB post… it was a Youtube video.

Wasn’t meant to be a slight.

And I didn’t hide it… As soon as it was up on Deadspin, I mentioned it in an OT. Nobody seemed to care.

    No not offended

but it’s nice to get link backs from Deadspin and they are always good about linking to the original source and the site that found it.

    Point taken...

And if you post a video of Dex making out with Johnny Midnight in the seats behind Jodes while she catches a HR ball and then flashes the crowd, I’ll be sure to let Deadspin know and will link back to GLB.

    Gwynn Jr.

My thinking has changed – we are at a spot where having him play this role is of value. Yeah, of course his last name in SD gives him a bit more rope but for now it is working based on what we have in the system..

I’d actually rather have Denorfia gone and throw Durango out there at a corner OF spot and late inning PH/PR ….Denorfia deserves a big pat on the back for the role he played (and is nice insurance) but everyday work really exposes his limitations on the offensive end…..

Watching Cameron in the Red Sox outfield

reminded me of how important CF defense is, particularly in Petco. I could handle Cameron’s huge # of strike outs and .250 .333 line because he saved so many runs defensively.

I hope TGJ gets his OBP up to like .360 so he can lead off and keep roaming CF for us.

    Speaking of looks

There has to be an untapped demographic of really ugly but talented baseball players that we’re not scouting because our scouts don’t think they are pretty enough. Why do all these picks have such handsome pics?

by jbox on Jun 8, 2010 11:25 AM PDT up reply actions

    I agree

Think about it. If we went for the ugly guys, we could probably spend a lot less money. We wouldn’t have to give them as much of a signing bonus as a hot sexy man, because they are ugly as sin and wouldn’t be expecting it.
God, I should be a scouting director.

    Facial symmetry...

I read an article a while back about how athletes are typically better looking than the rest of the population because people with body symmetry tend to also have good facial symmetry (and vice versa). Body symmetry is very important when it comes to becoming an elite athlete. Athletes are much more likely to have symmetrical bodies, which means they’re more likely to have symmetrical faces.

It’s God’s way of really sticking it to ugly people. He gives the best faces to the people with the best bodies.
