San Diego Padres Fan Confidence Poll: 6/7/2010
The rules are simple. On a scale of 0 to 10, 0 being no confidence at all, 10 being absolute confidence, How confident are you in the San Diego Padres organization?
"Confidence" is just about anything you want to interpret it as. The front office, the future prospects, the play on the field, the park, etc etc etc.
You know what would be great is if the Fan Confidence Poll somehow was able to predict like TV ratings or ticket sales or something. Unfortunately, I think we've got an unrepresentative sample. Crazies and what not.
GO PADRES!!!

I went 9
because, I had a really good time at the Park at the Park last Sunday Home Game. and notice all the improvements they were trying “some successful, some meh”. I need to get out our season tickets more often.
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
A solid 8 going into the draft.
If our fist round pick needs immediate surgery. I will drop to a negataive eight billion.
9
I would have been an 8 if we weren’t going into the draft today. Super excited for it. And I’m thinking about planning a trip to SD for September, so that has my spirits up!

I agree
But I went from 8 to 7. Something would really have to be wrong for me to drop multiple numbers in 1 week.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Add a new one to the mix
Or rather, re-hash one that I said earlier. Kevin Goldstein just posted this:
Pick a card, any card. The Padres could reach here for Kolbrin Vitek, they could could go with a young arm like Karsten Whitson, and while they’d love for Choice to be here, that’s not happening. The rumor of their attachment to Nick Castellanos won’t go away either. Zack Cox, however, could be too hard to pass up.
Pick: Zack Cox, 3B, Arkansas

Maybe
the padres should insist on a signing bonus so low that whoever they pick refuses to sign, so they can get another pick next year.

At least not about the 1st round pick
If the Padres are doing their homework they can still can good players in this draft just like last year, but I wouldn’t expect the 1st rounder to be much more likely than the 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounders to pan out. We’ll see though. I’m sure DePo and company will work their spin to get us excited about whoever they pick.
Overall, I’m just more interested to see what they do in the draft as a whole than who they spend their 1st round pick on. And that’s a plain and simple knock on the type of players in the first round. We are going to see guys drafted in the top 10-15 that other scouting directors didn’t even see as 1st round guys. The buzz words are “Wide Open”.

I feel like our whole farm system sucks right now
Tate has been hurt for a year straight. Didn’t Decker just come back and isn’t he sucking? and isn’t Antonelli (not excited when he’s healthy) and Forsythe hurt?
Pretty much have no impact players in the farm system except for Castro. Maybe Forsythe or Darnell could play second down the road right?
Mat Latos is the real deal...Go Lakers, Pads, and Bolts
by mrbarneydangles on Jun 7, 2010 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions
Castro and Cumberland are impact guys.
Tate and Decker are young so they can afford an off year or two and still be impact guys. We have another of other young guys that we can have patience with (Rincon, Galvez, Williams). We also have some guys that have been a little better than expected, but maybe not impact guys like Tekotte, Robertson and Belnome in Lake Elsinore and Cedric Hunter in San Antonio.
Pitching-wise I’m not going to hold Luebke’s injury against him and he’s looked good. Jerry Sullivan, Anthony Bass, Ernesto Frieri, Aaron Poreda, Corey Kluber, Jeremy Hefner and Wynn Pelzer all look like they could help the major league team at this point.
I’m sure I’ve left a couple out. Our farm system doesn’t suck, it’s just that it had the potential to be a lot better without the struggles of the guys you mentioned.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Forsythe has already been moved full time to 2B.
And has been doing pretty well since coming back from injury a little while ago.

Yes he is playing 2B
But he’s striking out too much. His BABIP his .345 and his average is only .267. Also, he’s hitting for less power than he was before. It’s looking like a lost year for him. He’ll probably have to repeat AA next year and by that point Drew Cumberland will have caught up with him. It may be a tight race to see who gets to be a big league 2B first.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
Lost year seems a little harsh.
He’s still walking like crazy, which means his plate discipline is still good. And as for power, he’s actually got a higher ISO right now than he did last year with San Antonio.

By Lost Year
I just mean that he won’t be promoted based off of his performance. It’s lost in that he misses out on an opportunity (and probably a year) to get one step closer to the majors.

Okay, fine
Sticking with 8 for now. I just want to see their actions in the draft match with what they’ve been preaching.
Im in the middle...
I picked 5, because Im just not happy with the bats….and I dont think the bats have it in ‘em to carry the pitching like the pitching’s been carrying the bats. Long term, when a team like Colorado gets totally straight, I wanna see how we fare against them and the Dodgers. We struggle against teams that (surprise!!) have the offense to deal with our pitching.
5
Just my daily whine about industry economics. Our probability to compete with disparate payrolls, consistently, feels very distant and hazy, despite our current success and no matter how bright Hoyer and co prove to be. I still follow daily and hope, but it just seems too hard. No room for error. My fear is that they “stick to the plan”, which will mean trading AGon and Bell types, we wait and 3-4 years to see their drafting bear fruit only to find, oops, we tried our best but our draft came up short. Let’s try again.
Maybe not. But the basis of my 5.
Down to 7 from 8
Our outfield situation is a little bleak at the moment and I don’t see how it’s going to improve. I’m not willing to leverage the future for a trade and there’s no money to throw at the problem. Adrian is gone in 1 2/3 seasons (or less) and the guys we were hoping would develop, haven’t. I’d like to think Correias struggles are related to the tragedy in his life but it looks like regression to the mean. Hopefully LeBlanc can fix the mechanical flaw that’s causing him to pitch to high in the zone, If not, he’s gonna get hammered tonight.
I’m thinking we could get Corey Hart for a package including some, but not all of the following players: Sean Gallagher, Cesar Ramos, Tim Stauffer and Craig Italiano. These guys are great for depth but not critical to the current team. I’m not looking for ton of stats showing why Corey Hart sucks here, I know he’s not a great player, but he’s got some pop and it’s desperately needed to offer some kind of incentive to pitch to Adrian.
"Never have a motto, that's what I always say" - Me
LeBlanc ain't the only one that's gonna get hammered tonight.
