I see that we have to play the Phillies again tomorrow. The Padres have been in Philadelphia for like, ever. I myself have never been to Philadelphia, but I imagine it to be a luscious, tropical place with sunshine year round and exotic animals wandering the streets.
Game ball goes to Axion for valiantly trying to persuade us into believing that AKGJ's ridiculous delayed attempt to advance to third with two outs on an infield play was somehow aggressive and not really uncalled for. You go on with your bad self. Walkin' the walk. AKGJ later redeemed himself with some nice glovework.
Game ball would have gone to eastbaysd for saving the late open thread, but then she got all mad at me for no good reason and now her game ball is in Axion's grubby little 4chan wandering hands.

my favorite thing to do at Fangraphs
is check the WPA graphs and look at the score lineup on the right hand side ranking the day’s games by average leverage index. It basically tells you what the best and worst games of the day are. (SD/PHI currently tops in the NL for the day at 1.72)

it’s not unusual for teams to have hot stretches like this, no matter their final record. I read a piece the other day where a computer randomly generated wins and losses for a 162-game season, with the only condition being that the end result was an 81-81 record.
There were stretches where the team played like the best team in baseball, and the worst team in baseball. There was a period where the team won 31 of 40 games, and a period where they won like 5 of 25. We like to assign meaning to these streaks, but there isn’t, really.

Burrell is the classic square peg, round hole
type of player that KT would of picked up up in 2005. I am ready to move on from that.

a) current internal options get better (nothing in the farm waiting)
b) we hope we can continue to win with dismal OF production (but good D)
we don't need all stars
we just need our 4 OF’s to perform near league avg, and that should be enough to get us to 100 wins.
